I made an arpeggiator patch a while back.

It's quite complex to do a proper arpeggiator, this one works pretty
well though it has a few limitations (been a few years, so I don't
remember what they are).

latching arp patches?

does anyone have any good arpeggiator patches for G1?
i'm trying to make an arpeggiator patch that would function similar to my korg poly61 on the setting UP, 2 octaves, and latch on. i.e. whatever chord is played is arpeggiated up two octaves even if let go, until another chord is pressed.
Just if anyone has any examples it would be appreciated...

Yeah, at least the stuff from Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain.
Everybody sais so when I play Detektivbyrån stuff as well which is the
group that I tried to copy. Similar in sound and arrangement (although

tons of techno-style-music.

i am accordionist myself and the mix of electronic sounds and acoustic
accordion is very attractive to me. the nord i play with an

Alright guys,

I think I've got a pretty good idea about what is happening now. Thanks. As promised, a Nord patch will be forthcoming (when I get back to the studio tomorrow!)

Impedance is a topic that's always baffled me a bit.....I get around it by not thinking about it. Mostly what I record are synths into the line inputs of an RME Fireface 800, which works fine.

As for instrument vs. Line level, the RME has a -10 and +4 setting, and I forget exactly how I have it set, but I thin it's -10. So when I run across an extra couple 'o grand and pick up that Great River Pre, I can start recording at +10.

I really like the idea of investing in some devices that will make my gear sound better. Yet whenever I get some cash for new hear, I'm always looking at Machine Drums, Kurzweil PC3's, and Moogerfoogers. hah. Gotta re-orient:)

using a DI .. or a pre- amp .
it should be taken into consideration what is the output impedance,
compared to the input impedance, to insure, maximum of the signal
getting through, from out to in-

which is why im still a fan of going around the D/A - A/D converter.
any converter is no good for the signal, so if i can have a direct D
output of the nord, into my system, then the nord sounds as it's
supposed to , and not changed by any pre- or DI .
Surely it can make the sound "better"... but from the manufacturers
point of view, i doubt the nord is supposed to sound any different than
the direct digital output.

Indeed. No boosting, no impedance improvement. Which is what this whole discussion so interesting ;-)

The "clarity", "naturalness" or other (feel free to add your own adjectives here) is an *added* *effect* to the original sound of the synth. The Nord's analog circuity may be of poor quality. But any "pro" sound introduced will be something put on top of the original sound.

inputs are the pro level they typically also have preamps to boost
line level stuff. If your inputs aren't pro/level, boosting to pro
level would cause distortion. The preamps discussed here will add
coloration boosting or not. Which is why they are desired, as the
somehow make things sound nicer.

The Nord out's are also unbalanced, (like me)
I mentioned earlier, unbalanced jacks into balanced line inputs will be OK, but there are better ways to "balance" the signal before it hits the amp circuit.

Maybe I misunderstand, but the instrument type inputs on many *mic* pres should be able to deal perfectly well with electric -guitars, basses etc. Sometimes a DI into the pre is better - but that's a "taste" thing.

Not necessarily, but often, yes.

It's not the boosting doing that actually... If what you have for
inputs are the pro level they typically also have preamps to boost
line level stuff. If your inputs aren't pro/level, boosting to pro
level would cause distortion. The preamps discussed here will add
coloration boosting or not. Which is why they are desired, as the
somehow make things sound nicer.

a guitar dont has enough level and to high impendance for a line
input..no high freq and low level would be the result...

Wrapping my head around Pre's for the Nord

I know its a bit off topic, but I've really enjoyed this discussion of running the Nord through pre's to make it sound better.

But I think I'm missing a few essential pieces of this puzzle that perhaps could be cleared up.

The Output of the Nord is "instrument" level, which is sorta like line level, but lower. Yet has a lower "impedance" than the output of say, a guitar. Yes? This is why I can plug the Nord directly into the "line" inputs on my audio interface and not loose audio quality. Yes? And also why there's a separate guitar input (labeled, "Instrument", I believe) on the audio interface.

Introducing one of these mic/line pre's into the signal chain will boost the output of the Nord (or whatever synth) up to full professional "Line" level...this is the -10 v +4 setting on the audio interface, correct?

This boosting of the signal will then beef up the sound and add some pleasant subtle harmonic coloration (depending on which pre-amp is used).

Can the Pre's discussed here, the vintage Telefunken, the Great River Electronics, and FMR can be used for Mic's, synth, and guitars too? Ultimately bringing everything up to a nice uniform professional line level signal?

Okay a few of these questions are redundant, but I appreciate the knowledge of the folks on the board. Answer me this and I promise I'll post a really cool Modular patch:)

its an universal amp..can be configured as line pre..bus amp... mic
pre with 55 db gain max... disribution amp..( has 2 output
transformers with each 2 outputs..so each v672 is 1 to 4..
kan be configured as MS matrix..

a great little amp..just a bit sensetiv against unsymetric wiering
and radio interfearance... its very sensetiv..

however..everthing sounds better thru them..,therfore they are a good
preamp.. but i woulndt mind a neve either ;-)

a good preamp before the AD process defenetly enhances the sound of
everything...
i just wantred to mention that it dont need to be a neve mic pre.. i
use telefunken V672...
they go for 100-150 euros per unit..so a stereo pair with power
supply in a breadbox can be realized for less than 500 euro and a
few hours work..
while a stereo neve set is rather the 3000 euro tag and is not doing
anything that differs much..discrete class a transformer balanced
vintage sound...
the telefunkens are no mic pres and only give 50 db gain max..but the
nord dont nees so muc..i ve a fixed boost of 20 db... just wright to
get the nords to full scale...

Nord preamps are good for eletronic sounds..Not for voice.
