New template and news bloging for websiteHi all, A gentleman by the name of Jeff Thomas has been maintaining the hosting for the conceptualgraphs.org and conceptualstructures.org web sites. He has proposed that he launch a web site called www.conceptualcomputing.com which would be a kind of information clearing house for material in the conceptual structures field. He would like to have a template so that all three web sites had the same feel. The front page of each site would be static, but the other pages would be associated with a blogging function that could be syndicated through an rss feed and members would have the ability to post and comment to the site (approval process can be put into place). Also, a message board for members to post to could also promote more interaction. If I understand correctly, Harry and I would no longer be the webmasters, but Jeff would maintain all three sites. It was felt that the community should have input on this kind-of changes with the web sites. What do you all think? I should make it clear, I do not mind (in fact I like it) webmastering the conceptualstructures.org site, but this really is a community decision. -Heather -- ================================================================ | Heather D. Re: New template and news bloging for websiteHello everyone,
I would just be providing a better set of tools to the community and providing some support. Heather and Harry would retain FULL administrative control of the sites www.conceptualgraphs.org & www.conceptualstructures.org. They in turn could give out access to other members of the community to blog about relevant matters. I was thinking of using something simple like Wordpress, a commonly used blogging software, to keep things simple, with possibly the addition of a message board for each site. As well I'd like to give them both access to the admin functions of www.conceptualcomputing.com. <http://www.conceptualcomputing.com./> Jeff Heather D. Re: New template and news bloging for website / Incorrect InterpretationHi Heather and All,
The interpretation that you and Harry would *not* be webmasters is completely incorrect. We definitely want to clear up an misconceptions about that! If you please review Jeff's original note, he is adding *one* site and requesting for input from the community. None of this has anything to do with changing the status quo. My own take is that the two sites managed by yourself and by Harry are just fine but that I encourage Jeff to create a place where a greater degree of community participation can occur. I would imagine in the future that such a site might also have an article publishing function as well as a repository of all known papers worldwide as individuals could contribute these in. These are ideas right now and I would very much like to see how we can bring ourselves closer and more collaborative. The proposed site, I believe, is just the very first step. It simplifies having blogging for everyone, a resource for all, while maintaining the uniqueness and quality that both you, Heather, and Harry have been supporting as webmasters. There are so many places already set up for free blogging.... I guess maybe some kind of "official blessing" might give the blogs here extra weight, but really blogs have to live or die on their content so I don't see what real value this would provide that people can't get elsewhere? <snip/> -- Peter Hunsberger --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: cg-unsubscribe@...
