New essay: WP:SAUCEBy popular demand, I've finally created an essay that's sometimes
been referenced in discussion even though it has, until now, not existed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:SAUCE WP:SAUCE or Wikipedia:Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander But is it a *reliable* sauce? -- == Dan == Dan's Mail Format Site: http://mailformat.dan.info/ Dan's Web Tips: http://webtips.dan.info/ Dan's Domain Site: http://domains.dan.info/ _______________________________________________ WikiEN-l mailing list WikiEN-l@... Re: New essay: WP:SAUCEUnsure this is helpful. At one level it's the same idea as "pot meet
kettle", but such essays have the potential to be used as modes of attack (eg, ignoring valid points in the argument, in favor of an argument over hypocrisy). Take a look at [[WP:KETTLE]] for an essay which makes the same point, but in a way that nudges both sides to de-escalate and tells both "this is lame". Its an aspect worth considering. Sauce for the goose is going to imply much more, "they do it so I can too", which isn't a good thing to suggest. FT2 On Wed, Oct 8, 2008 at 4:01 AM, Daniel R. Re: New essay: WP:SAUCESurely what you mean is "Sauce for the goose is NOT sauce for the
gander"...? FT2 On Wed, Oct 8, 2008 at 5:56 AM, FT2 <ft2.wiki@...> wrote: > Unsure this is helpful. > Surely what you mean is "Sauce for the goose is NOT sauce for the > gander"...? I think that's the point. Look closely at the ingredients. The gander sauce does not contain citric acid for example. A wider variation would make this clearer though. —C.W. _______________________________________________ WikiEN-l mailing list WikiEN-l@... The pot/kettle thing is about criticizing others in ways which apply equally if not moreso to yourself. Dan's essay is about double standards in general. A couple of the examples could be covered on both pages, but hypocrisy has more flavors than Baskin-Robbins and none of us are even scratching the surface as yet. —C.W. _______________________________________________ WikiEN-l mailing list WikiEN-l@...
