New Kodachrome forum input needed...Hi gang,
I am about to launch the Kodachrome Project forums on my Kodachromeproject.com website and would like to get some outside input on what topics Kodachrome fans might like to see listed besides the obvious of history, technical, etc. For the foreseeable future, there will not be any fee to join the forums and I am hoping to add a user gallery by the Summer. The reason I have been prompted to do this is that when I do a google search on Kodachrome now, out of 1.1 million results, my site comes up 8th. This means that the site already has high visibility in the search engine, so why not allow the photo community to chime in on what they want to talk about in regards to Kodachrome and the kodachrome era? I want this to become a great site in which folks have a place to help come up with great ideas in which to foster the greater good of the Kodachrome Project. That way, even when the film is truly gone, there is still a great place to share stories, images and our love of Kodachrome. Feel free to chime in... |

Re: New Kodachrome forum input needed...Why do we need your site, we already have this list.

Re: New Kodachrome forum input needed...Basically, I am going with the forum Because the Kodachrome project has generated a *lot* of interest from photographers who want to participate in the project and it has got the attention of National Geographic and even the Library of Congress. The Nabble forum comes in 58th in a search and is somewhat unorganized in display of content while the Kodachrome Project comes in 8th and is going to use Vbulletin software which is much more user friendly. I am not saying the Nabble forum is not good enough, I am saying that as this era comes to a close, there needs to be a dedicated website for Kodachrome all on it's own. Many people who write in daily have echoed this. I have had requests for a forum for a reason, I'm going for it. Thanks, Dan

Re: New Kodachrome forum input needed...When people request info, you should just direct them to this list.

Re: New Kodachrome forum input needed...I just got your second email...
With a film and more importantly an era as legendary as Kodachrome, there is most definately room for another site with great forum topics, a good cause that gets people out shooting and even user galleries. This is a list, there needs to be a fantastic site. So there will be...:-)

Re: New Kodachrome forum input needed...This seems to violate copyright law on at least two levels;
1)The list owner's copyright as a publisher & (maybe) as a compiler of a list. 2)The list subscriber's copyright as authors is being infringed, as well. If anyone wants to pursue this, you may want to enlist the help of ASMP (HQ in Philadelphia) 215.451.2767 http://www.asmp.org/. They can advise you on how to go after this kind of thing like a bunch of wild dogs, big wild dogs..... You may have to cough up $300 to become a member, but that's a small price to pay for the finest legal minds in photography today. Re: New Kodachrome forum input needed...What?
Are you implying I am participating in copyright infringement? All I am trying to do here is get input as to what devotees of Kodachrome film would like to see on this new site? It's just another resource for this era and I feel it is really important. It is ludicrous to think that there should just be one site about or dedicated to Kodachrome. If this is just going to upset some bureaucratic types on here, then I will kindly bow out as I am getting great input and support from other places. Thus far, the feedback I have got from the likes of Kodak and the Library of Congress have been very positive, there is simply no need for any backlash from this. This project is for all of us who want to help make it a reality: http://www.Kodachromeproject.com I am a member of NPPA, ASMP and APA, I am on the up and up here. Let's not lose sight of what is good for everyone, OK?

Re: New Kodachrome forum input needed...I'm curious what he is babbling on about too. How would add forums and member photos be any different than flickr or any of the many other photo sharing sites?

Re: New Kodachrome forum input needed...***Attn. Nabble site administrator or moderators***
While my intentions were purely to engage people in helping to create a fun new site, I seemed to have mistakenly offended some on here to the point where I am no longer comfortable in having this thread on the lists if it can be helped at all. So if possible, please remove or lock it so that it does not ruffle any more feathers. With all due respect, Daniel Bayer / Director / The Kodachrome Project. |

Re: New Kodachrome forum input needed...Dan,
I wish you luck with your site and look forward to joining the forum when it's up and running. I've found your project intriguing, and have been looking in on your site from time to time, but have been disappointed in the lack of real content and updates, so I'm glad to hear you are now working on expanding it. Indeed, the lack of activity on your site was one of the reasons I started my own blog http://photo.oktett.net/ where I report on my Kodachrome musings from time to time. I'm surprised by the critisisms, but don't let that bother you. Particilarly that about copyright infringement sounded more like a huge misunderstanding. And it's ludicrous to suggest we should have just one "something" about Kodachrome. We have this list, we have your site, and we have my blog, for what it's worth - they're all very different and ought to complement each other nicely. Direct even remotely interested people to these three places, and with any luck we can generate some greater awareness and general interest in this important era of color photography that is coming to an end. -- Fredrik Sandström fs@... _______________________________________________ Kodachrome mailing list Kodachrome@... http://lists.kjsl.com/mailman/listinfo/kodachrome |
