Yeah, I looked at that and basically it said that bootstrap should run
with no problem and after that hg will download the binaries. Only
that bootstrap needs the java help jar downloaded beforehand.

6.5M1 - request for Eclipse project import tests on real Eclipse projects

NB Users,

due to many requests we've taken the old Eclipse project import from
AutoUpdate, improved it and since NB 6.5M1 it is part of standard NB
distribution. If you work in mixed-IDE team and your colleagues are
using Eclipse we would appreciate if you could try to import real life
Eclipse projects and tell us if import was satisfactory or what problems
you experienced. Preferably just file an issue for component 'ide' and
subcomponent 'eclipse project import'.

One of the main new features is synchronization of changes after the
import. NetBeans project created as a result of import keeps a reference
to its Eclipse source. Any relevant change in Eclipse project (at the
moment only classpath is monitored) is automatically propagated to
NetBeans project during project opening or can be explicitly requested
via project's popup menu (Synchronize With Eclipse). In future this may
be extended to propagate changes done in NetBeans back to Eclipse.

Some of the other improvements:
* Eclipse Dynamic Web project can be imported now
* Eclipse user defined libraries are imported to NetBeans library catalogue
* Eclipse user defined variables are setup in NetBeans
* test source roots are detected
* compiler options are imported
* JDK configuration is imported
* and lot of bugfixes

Could you please elaborate what you are trying to say here?

PS: I would also like to point out that it's bad form to write an
email on a mailing list just to point to something else you've written

your email. You also have to consider people don't read all the emails
on the list (there are too many) and if you also ask them to click on
another link to read something else, you already lost more than half
of them.

I'm not sure as to why you have mentioned this. But yes I have seen many a posts providing blog links etc etc. But that doesn't motivate me to do this. And yes it seems to look interesting on blog rather than here. Again this is my personal opinion. If you think this is spamming your account just ignore it. It is as simple as this.

is recommended for significant changes like this. Less critical to have
friend APIs reviewed than public APIs, of course.

So give your platform a simpler name, e.g. "nbdev". There is a reason
the name field is editable when you create it.

BTW if this directory is (or could be) just a part of the installation
cluster, then you do not need any code at all. Just make those files
part of your NBM's fileset. Easiest to just put them under the release/
dir of a source project, if the list is static.

Instead of doing the copying when the module is "installed" (which is in
practice hard to define in all cases), copy the files on demand when
some functionality from your module first needs them.

Use:

hg loc -r tip -0 '**.java' | xargs -0 fgrep 'code to search'

which will be faster (especially if you restrict the filename pattern
further).

Sounds like the external binary download failed. Is 'hg' in your default
path? It ought to just work with no intervention, replacing around
150-200 files in */external/*.jar etc. with the real versions. See

Yeap, I also did use grep during a period when I needed to look at the
source. Spotlight from OSX is also quite handy (kinda like Google
Desktop Search).

I too have experienced some major performance issues, and I believe them to be with Task Scanning. I recently switched from JBuilder 2006 (I didn't like 2007, so didn't use that one much) due to the better support for the later versions of Java. I turned on the Java Tasklist and noticed that my CPU was being eaten alive and the IDE performance was horrible. I've just turned off the tasklist, and so far, it definitely seems to be performing well again. I do like the tasklist and used it in JBuilder, but I'd much rather have a better performing IDE than a tasklist, so I'll have to let it go for now. I can always search across files for all "@todo" tags.

FYI, my essential system specs:
Dell Optiplex 745
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz
3 GB RAM
Radeon X1300 256MB dedicated

Netbeans with the heavy-lifting associated with opening 754 projects.
But still, I just searched and it is making Netbeans use 100% processor
usage and 700 megs of RAM (out of a total of 2 Gigs). hg loc, find, etc

I use this:

locate Lexer.java | xargs grep 'code to search'

"locate" is faster than find, as it uses an internal database that is
updated periodically.

I have to admit that such a tool would be very useful.

Hy,

I have a clone of main and I'm trying to build some modules with no luck.

On nbbuild I get a lot of errors on OSX due to the missing javax.help.
package used by CheckHelpSets*.

Do I need to configure something ? From the looks of the wiki
everything should be automated and nbbuild/build.xml#bootstrap should
always work.

Its impossible to open all the projects in the Netbeans sources and then
use the search tool, since background scanning and compiling processes
then take over the system :|

Thanks I did never went into the 'manifest' link ! Its easy to browse

But an online way to search would be great!

The search on hg.netbeans.org is just for revision history (I suppose)

There is file nb6.1/build_info. There is revision. (But it is correct
only when you did not apply any updates/patches.

I am currently using the unix way of searching through the netbeans
source code inside files like so:

find . -name "*.java" | xargs grep 'code to search'

But having something like OpenGrok, etc can be beneficial.

I search google code search but it does not index CDDL Code :|.

Do you use some local code search tool or is there any such tool online
for Netbeans?

Hy,

Could anyone tell me what was the exact changeset for the 6.1 release ?

The point being that I "hg clone -r XXXXmagicXXX" and look at the
exact release sources. I don't want the src snapshot as it doesn't
have any history and I can't diff as nicely.

Yep, I want to kill it XD, it's an external process that invokes "grails install-plugin ..." command line script and I want to allow the user to cancel it. But, I think as you say my process is not interruptable.

This is a bit late in the process for 6.5, but the lack of official first class support for AspectJ (in all Java project types) is becoming a real issue.
