Thank you for the list of things to install. It came in very handy.
I managed to finally get ncat compiled after installing libpcap0.8-dev and libssl-dev (I had installed that on the first box I was trying on but hadn't done on the second)
I already had libpcap0.8 installed and I was able to compile w/ my older gcc 3.3.
Thank you Dirk and Kris for your suggestions. The program seems to run as advertised! I look forward to playing around with it.
