NTK Shell ? etc.

Hi,

some people seem to work on a NTK-based shell as an alternative to ITK/4D.
Has anybody succeeded and uses NTK on a production-server yet ?

If so,
- how does NTK behave in terms of performance and stability ?
- would You be willing to share or sell your shell-code ?

We are currently having some problems with the following issues (4D 2004 on WIN XP):

- 4D apparently gives a rather low priority to 4D-web processes, which -in our case-  sometimes heavily affects general responsiveness of the web server, when some computing-intensive 4D-methods (financial calculations) are evoked  by web-requests.

- we are using the common setup with apache as proxy to 4D to serve static content and are getting frequent 502-"bad gateway"- errors even when not under very heavy load-
Il recall reading somewhere, that this is not un uncommun problem.

Does anybody know, if switching to NTK or even the (outdated?) ITK would perhaps help to solve these problems.

Thanks for your comments ...

Brad Perkins and I have been working on an NTK shell, however in
testing there have been some serious problems which we have not been
able to resolve. Maybe Brad will have more to say about this.

The biggest problem I ran into was handling file uploads. Any request
that required multiple socket buffer reads were problematic. I developed
some kludgey workarounds but they weren't reliable when  released into a
production environment. Beyond that, I don't have much to add.

I'm going to assume that ITK is not going to be updated for v1. Has
anyone heard otherwise? I inquired with e-node about future ITK status
but have not received an answer.

ok, thanks for your input.

Were the problems NTK- or 4D-specific ?
Did you contact Rob Laveaux from Pluggers ?

Yes, I have to send him the shell and info on the problems, but I
don't have time to deal with it right now.

Yes. I've been in discussions with Rob throughout the conversion and he
has been very helpful.
