year. Over 45% more exams were delivered than in 2006 and
certifications earned were up by almost a third! The new Associate
Certification is proving to be very popular. Thank you on behalf of The

_MySQL 6.0 Exams: _ Next year MySQL 6.0 will take the world by storm and
the MySQL Certification Exams will be upgraded to match the new
release. The MySQL Certification Team would like to hear your thoughts
on then next generation of exams.

Do we retain two exams (DBA-I & DBA-II or Dev-I & Dev-II) for the DBA
and Developer exams? Or do we need to go to three exams to cover
Falcon, partitioning, and all the other new features? Could the
material be covered on one very long exam?

MySQL 5.1 Cluster Certification Study Guide

Hi,

A little over a year since the project to write this book began, the
MySQL 5.1 Cluster Certification Study Guide is now at long last
available. Covering the Certified MySQL 5.1 Cluster Database
Administrator exam, this study guide is the one authority to look to
when you're preparing for the test. The book teaches you all the
concepts, principles, and techniques that you'll need to know for the
exam, with many practice questions and real-world examples to help you
prepare for test day. The book is also an excellent reference guide for
your real-world MySQL Cluster administration needs. Whatever your reason
for becoming MySQL certified, this book gives you the information you
need to help you better understand MySQL Cluster technologies and
prepare for and pass the exams.

The authors span from Australia over Europe to the East and West coast
of the US. We had reviewers from four different continents. Seeing a
project like this actually working and producing a great result is
really fascinating. Carsten Pedersen helped to get the table of contents
in place, wrote the introduction, and made sure certification program
and study guide were kept in sync, while Stefan Hinz was the project
lead, but, naturally, the lion's share was done by the authors:

* Jon Stephens is not only the master of MySQL Cluster Documentation, he
has actually moved himself halfway across the world be be closer to the
Cluster developers while he works. His author's credits include
Beginning MySQL Database Design and Optimization from Apress.

* Mike Kruckenberg should be a familiar name to anyone reading Planet
MySQL. Mike is co-author of Pro MySQL from Apress, and member of the
MySQL Certification Technical Advisory Board.

* Roland Bouman, blogger extraordinaire, winner of one of the 2006 MySQL
Community awards, and hired in 2006 to (among many other things) develop
the Cluster certification exams. If anyone knows what's on the exams, he
is the one.

* Stewart Smith not only hacks away at Cluster during his working hours,
he's also very involved in the Australian Open Source community, and is
often heard speaking on MySQL Cluster.

* Solomon Chang, a founding member of LAMPSIG of Los Angeles and a
professional DBA, has contributed material for exercises and reviewed
much of the book.

Japanese MySQL Certification Exams now avaible

Hi,

Yesterday, Sep 25 2007, the MySQL Developer and DBA certification
exams became available in Japanese.

The following exams are available in Japanese:
- 003-002 : Certified MySQL 5.0 Developer Part I
- 004-002 : Certified MySQL 5.0 Developer Part II
- 005-002 : Certified MySQL 5.0 DBA Part I
- 006-002 : Certified MySQL 5.0 DBA Part II

As always, the exams are available through Pearson VUE. To schedule
the exam at one of the 121 testing Japanese VUE testing centers,

MySQL Certifications: CMA - Exams Available July 18

Hi,

The Certified MySQL Associate (CMA) certification will be available
in all Pearson VUE testing centers as of Wednesday, July 18 2007.

For those that haven't heard about this certification before: It's a
beginner's type certification that will not impress hard-core DBAs
with years of experience, but we expect quite a lot of this
certification none the less. The Developer and DBA certifications
are pretty tough, and in many cases go beyond what you need, at
least for an entry-level position. With the Associate certification,
you get good proof that you know the basics of MySQL without
straining yourself or your wallet. At the same time, you get an
excellent stepping stone into the rest of the MySQL certification
program.

The single exam has 50 questions, and lasts for one hour. It’s also
somewhat less expensive than the other exams. Unlike other MySQL
certifications, the Associate exam does not carry a version number
and is regarded as perpetually valid once you have obtained it (we
do, however, expect you to be at home on at least a MySQL v. 4.1
version).

There will not be a separate study guide for this exam. If you
already have the MySQL 5.0 Certification Study Guide (ISBN:
0672328127), you have all you need to study for this exam. The MySQL
Certification Candidate Guide* will tell you just what parts of the
study guide pertain to the Associate certification (as well as all
other practical details you need to know).

If you took part in the Associate Beta exam at the User’s Conference
and passed, your certificate will arrive in a few weeks. We’re still
waiting to have them delivered from the printer.

Approximately one year ago, I wrote to this mailing list saying

"You may not remember this, but at some point in the distant past
you signed up for this mailing list -- although we have always
promised it to be low-volume, once-per-year was not quite the plan
at the time the list was created :-) Starting with this mail, we

Promises made are, unfortunately, not always promises kept. And I'm
very sorry for that. I hope that you find the news in this email

Get Certified at the MySQL Conference

In case you didn't know, the MySQL Conference & Expo starts in Santa
Clara, California just a few days from now. The schedule is loaded
with great stuff and loads of interesting talks that should be of
huge interest to anyone interested in MySQL. This includes three
tutorial sessions with MySQL certification exam primers delivered by
our best teachers!

If that's not enough of an excuse to go, then we probably have just

Certified MySQL Cluster DBA Certification Now Available
=======================================================
The MySQL 5.1 Cluster DBA Certification (CMCDBA) is a specialization
exam for those that design, deploy and administer MySQL Cluster
setups. Cluster certification is part of the DBA track, As such,
CMCDBA can be attained only by Certified MySQL DBAs.

The Cluster certification exam consists of a single exam, You can
find more information on the contents of the exam in our Candidate
Guide (http://www.mysql.com/certification/candguide#t35).

As always, best preparation for any MySQL certification exam comes
courtesy of our excellent training program, which also offers
cluster-specific training. For those wishing to do self-study for
the exams, we expect to have a Cluster Certification Study Guide
available in a month, perhaps two.

Upcoming Certification: Certified MySQL Associate
=================================================
Roland is also the main force behind our new Certified MySQL
Associate (CMA) certification.

The CMA certification represents a bit of a "side step" in the
development of the MySQL certification program thus far. Until this
point, we have concentrated on making certifications that bring
candidates to a higher and higher level. While doing this, we
received many requests from customers, candidates and also
internally to develop a more basic certification, a certification to
validate that the candidate has a good foundation in basic MySQL
skills and concepts without all the nitty-gritty details we expect
you to know as a CMDEV or CMDBA.

And thus, this new entry-level certification comes to light.
Although holding CMA certification is not a formal prerequisite to
attaining other certifications, you should consider starting your
MySQL certification path with the CMA certification. We recommend
the CMA certification for MySQL users that know the basics, but have
not yet attained the experience gained by professional MySQL DBAs or
Developers.

The exam contents reflect the basics needed to get started using
MySQL for application development and ad-hoc database administration:

* Theory, Terminology and Concepts
* Data Definition using SQL
* Basic Data Manipulation using SQL
* Advanced Data Manipulation using SQL
* Transactions
* Import/Export

More details about this exam will be available when the
certification exams are released.

The initial work on this exam has just been completed: The questions
have been authored and gone through initial battle-testing by MySQL
employees, and what we need now is some community feedback for the
exams. And so, on Wednesday afternoon, 200 attendees of the

for no cost at all. Passing the Beta exam is just as valid as
passing the "release" version of the exam; the difference is that
you're expected to answer more questions and provide some additional
