Model numberingInteresting approach: first D70 then D40 and D50 and D60
first D700 then D400 , D500, D600 why not in ascending order? Any newer model will have something better than an older model. Well, I guess no one will buy an older model once a newer is released. Does anyone know if the support for the new ultra-fast UDMA Compact Flash means the buffer size on the D3 and D700 is irrelevant if shooting JPEGs? This is a work related question - essentially is it possible to use a D3 or D700 as a low (5 fps) frame rate ultra-high resolution movie camera -up to the capacity of the CF card(s)? The largest UDMA CF cards I can find are 32GB so using a D3 I could get 64BGBs of movie - what JPEGs settings would be needed to turn that into a a max-resolution, max-number of frames? Can I still use D-light with these settings? Depending on the answers Nikon could be about to make a lot of money from my company. > > Philip Tudor > > > > > ------------------------------ > > _______________________________________________ > Nikon mailing list > Nikon@... > http://nikonusers.com/mailman/listinfo/nikon_nikonusers.com > > > End of Nikon Digest, Vol 36, Issue 2 > ************************************ > -- _______________________________________________ Nikon mailing list Nikon@... http://nikonusers.com/mailman/listinfo/nikon_nikonusers.com |

Re: Model numberingModel number indicates relative place in the line and with regards to
each other. Two digit models are consumer/amateur, three digit models are semi-pro, single digit models are pro. The D70 was a mid/high range consumer body, as is the D80. D40 is lower-spec than the D50 in almost all regards (it added ISO3200 and a deeper buffer, but gave up controls, build quality, battery capacity, AF motor and more), while the D60 offers more (higher fps, more resolution than D50). It makes the model line easy to understand, a D45 is going to be a new consumer model, while a D800 is obviously a semi-pro model. Canon and Sony also choose model names in a similar fashion. Canon models use digits as the defining factor (1 digit is pro/semi-pro, 2 digit is high-end amateur, 3 digit is higher-end consumer, 4-digit is low-end), Sony goes for the first number in the model based on Minolta practice, with 2/3 being consumer, 4/5 being high-end consumer/amateur, 7/8 being semi-pro and 9 being flagship. -Adam On Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 10:56 AM, Septimiu Pelau <septimiu@...> wrote: > Interesting approach: first D70 then D40 and D50 and D60 > first D700 then D400 , D500, D600 > > why not in ascending order?
