Split Model-Glue.xml

I would like to split model-glue.xml to smaller parts and found that I can not use <include template="template_name.cfm" /> inside the <event-handlers></event-handlers> but outside of it.

My original intention was to put a class eg. users related events into a separate xml but it seems to me that I can not split the event-handlers into smaller parts rather put the whole <event-handlers> block into a new xml.

Am I correct at this? How do people split large xml files to smaller ones? Are there any best practice?

I'm confused on how to install modelglue and coldspring on my local
machine that has coldfusion8 developer on it. Please advise anyone?

This worked great for when I do a generic commit, thanks. I do have a
question though, and I have not been able to locate it in the mg docs
or the reactor docs. Are there named results for a generic delete as
well? I have tried 'commit' and 'delete', but it does not process
properly, even though the record /is/ deleted from the database..

PreserveState only appears to work when the result element includes a
"name" attribute. I don't know if this is a bug or just a case of
incorrect documentation. For more info see

are you sure you commit is happening successfully?
iv'e always used the named results provided by the generic commit, I think you may need to use those
I *think* that if the validation of the record fails, MGU keeps the info in the viewstate, expecting you to return the user to the form page. .....not near any MG code right now, but look in your scaffold.xml file for an example of using the named results, then you can redirect upon successful commit

Are you setting the event value?

You need to find a way to make sure you're actually setting the value.....

There is a ModelGlue example in the ajax.cfc example files. Have you looked into that?

The example was written against ModelGlue 1 so you can refactor it for ModelGlue:Unity by putting ajax.cfc inside ColdSpring.

2.0.284, which I think is the latest BER to see if it would fix the
issue, but no luck. So I started digging through the framework files to
figure out how the redirect was being handled and found that for some
reason the preserveState argument didn't seem to be getting passed to
the forward method... so if you look at
/ModelGlue/unity/framework/ModelGlue.cfc at line 413 you'll see this:

<cfset eventContext.forward(mapping[j].event, mapping[j].append) />

Now if you look at /ModelGlue/unity/eventrequest/EventContext.cfc you'll
see that the Forward method is expecting these arguments:

<cfargument name="event" type="string" required="true" hint="The event
to forward to.">
<cfargument name="append" type="string" required="false" hint="A list of
state values to append to the URL.">
<cfargument name="stateful" type="boolean" required="false"
default="true" hint="A list of state values to append to the URL.">
<cfargument name="anchor" type="string" required="false" hint="An anchor
to append to the URL." default="">

So it doesn't look like the preserveState (stateful) or the anchor
arguments are being passed. To fix it I just added the argument to the
method call:

Tested it out and it seemed to resolve the issue. Now I'm wondering if

trying to do, etc.?

the first readFields, so I wonder why it gets called so much, period,
but it's pretty easy to take the code apart (MG/reactor) and see
the path the whatnot flows or follows.

You are probably going to have trouble getting help with this since you are running such an old version of Model Glue. You might want to consider updating to the newest version. Check Joe's blog for notes on some important changes you will need to make to your application.

I'm running MG 2.0 Build 160 along with reactor and coldspring. The problem
I'm having is that I can't seem to get the viewState to clear out after an
event redirect.

After my form is submitted, it fires off the commit event which has a
redirect defined that reads:

<result do="admin.article.addEdit" redirect="true" preserveState="false"
append="ArtID" />

So what I'm having it do is basically redirect back to the original form,
but reset everything so that it's ready for the next submission. What's
happening is that all of the variables being submitted with the form are
sticking around even after the re-direct happens. I had thought that the
preserveState="false" flag would have prevented that. Anyone have any ideas
as to why this would be happening?

I think the real thing you're fighting is ColdSpring or No ColdSpring.

Are they/you using CS with the Mach-II app? Hrmmm... looks like you're loading it up..
but the real power of CS comes with the injecting/loose coupling (WAIT, the AOP is
a real ass-kicker too!), which it doesn't look like you've utilized in the way I would.

But I really don't know what the hell I'm doing, besides just a little, teensy bit.

It seems like there is a little "groady-ness" when using CSed stuff with non CSed
stuff, no matter what... which makes sense, if you think about it. So perhaps you
did it as best as it will do. ^shrug^

If that's really what's going on there... and as I said, "I know nothing".

On a totally different note:
Why don't you use the google group, Bryan, vs topica?

Because so far MG:U is living mostly in blog-land? Yeah, I feel the pain.

On a serious note, I think that you've done it as best as I've seen it
done (for the couple of projects that do this, that's what they do- add
an init-type-func that has to be called if you're not in "the box").
You gotta bridge the gap somewayformOrOther.

The other thing I don't like is the hard coded path but it seems like it's better to have it there than to pass it in because then if you do change the path you only have to change it in this one place rather than everywhere the service is used.

What are your thoughts on the proper way to do this kind of thing?

Redundant calls to reactor readFields

It would help me a great deal if someone else could do this simple test
and tell me if they are getting the same results that I am.

This way I can narrow down the things I need to look at for solutions to
my performance problem.

In debugging my performance problem I discovered that on each update the
reactor function readFields in ObjectDao.cfc is being called six times.
There doesn't appear to be a good reason for this.

I would really appreciate it if someone could report their results.

To tell me if the same thing is happening to you all that has to be done
is:

1) open reactor/data/oracle/ObjectDao.cfc
2) find the readFields function
3) just ABOVE the query <cfquery name="qFields" put this code

4) in dspTemplate.cfm put this code
