Medical Statistician (Fixed term to October 2011)

The Division of Stroke Medicine requires a medical statistician to support Divisional trials including the large international MRC ENOS phase III clinical trial (www.enos.ac.uk).  There will be the opportunity to collaborate in methodological research and study design, as well as supporting other researchers within the division with their statistical analyses.  The successful candidate will play an important role in the departments' research activities, including the design of trials, oversight of trial processes, analysing and reporting of trials, and meta analyses.  There will be the opportunity to attend UK and international conferences.  

Candidates will register for a PhD / MPhil. Motivated by real clinical trial data, the PhD/MPhil project would involve the exploration, development and implementation of appropriate statistical methods for analysing trials assessing the treatment and prevention of stroke. The project would focus on the ordinal analysis of stroke and vascular event data and encompass sample size estimation and time to event analyses.

This post is open to applicants with relevant experience or an MSc in Medical Statistics.  The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate good communication and teamwork skills, excellent presentation skills, strong statistical and computing skills, the ability to communicate statistical issues to non-statisticians and have an aptitude for both applied and methodological research.

Candidates should have a degree in medical statistics or related subject.

Salary will be within the range £23,002-£25,135, depending on qualifications and experience, with the possibility of progression to £28,290 per annum. This post is available from September 2008 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract until October 2011.
