Any links from the articles should remain in place. Does this require a
permalink?
Do you want to check that an objects is still referenced im an article
before deletion? i.e. check for referential integrity?

Filter by Date

How does this match the current ability to look at articles by date as a
blog browser/reader i.e. person?

Sharing stuff/media object library

Do you propose to attempt to record the publishers copyright rules to
inform share receipients of their restricted rights? A lot of Sun's
bloggers upload their images with some form of creative commons licence,
and I realise that when incorporating my pictures from flickr, I don't
copy my own licences. I think this is an issue, but I'm not sure what
the solution is.

*Ganesh: If I understand correctly, the current ability is purely for blog
posts and the blog reader will have to click on a specific date to view the
posts for that date.  In the proposal, we meant to have the ability for a
blog owner (not the reader) to filter his/her uploaded files by the range of
dates when the file was uploaded.  However, the kind of filter that is
currently available for blog posts will be a good one to have for a blog
reader to browse the media library.

copyright statement as a metadata for the uploaded files? *

I think this is different between the media object poster and others. I
was writing from the point of view of the owners, who I assumed would
upload the media object and then blog about it i.e. create a blog entry.
This then creates a link from the blog article to the media object,
contained within the blog entry. If the author then moves the media
object in the media folder hierarchy, the blog article entries need to
be maintained. I think that 3rd party commentators should point at the
blog entry so they can be ignored, or not as you choose. So a media
object id would solve this, currently resource URL's contain the folder
name (I think?).

If generating a permalink, then this needs to be displayed in the
library browser and the upload OK page.

So see above, it may be best to prohibit deletions, and this plan of
yours means that moving files within the hierarchy must not damage
incoming links from the non-author.

I think it would be impossible to track references to the media object
from places outside the roller instance that owns the database.

I have forgotten why I raised this now, I suspect it was about taking
maintaining a consistent UI between the blog articles editor and media
library managment pages.

Yes, and a macro to display it in the blog.

A pull down menu offering, copyright, createive commons and public
domain settings might be good on the upload screen  and a personal
default for media objects. Hey, maybe we should hold a copyright default
for the blog and allow a macro to display it into the blog and as an
entry property in the feed. (Is property the right word?)

I have been told off before now (elsewhaer) about keeping Sun's standard
