Did anyone here hear the live session on M6 last week?  It's on the BBC website at the moment.

Marc Riley and Colin Greenwood were both very effusive... and little wonder, the session was a cracker. THREE new tracks + WWT (played at Marc's request).  All three new ones are instant classics imo; the beautiful, fragile Free Not Free (they spring another surprise on us), a searingly full version of The Witch, and probably my new Favourite Clinic Track, Corpus Christie.  Just superb.

Anyway, no need for me to keep going on, here is a link to MP3s of it all:

My longheld feeling about the new record is the same as that expressed by Radams on another thread - each Clinic album is better than the last (I don't count 3EPs btw), and I'm feeling confident...

I cant believe i forgot about this, thanks a heap al. all the praise was nice to hear from colin and the host.

i'm on board with corpus christie as well. haunting and very cool. the witch is a lot like a longer version of the cape (one of my favs). and free not free is the newest, really good spin on the mr moonlight/paradise - type track.

it's all still in clinic's own, refined style...so ugh, i can just see the jagoff posts on atease and the lazy articles at pitchfork coming that will go on about do it being just a reshuffling of old styles and arrangements. it's criminal that a band isnt allowed to have a unique style. are people's attention spans really so short that they need a new sound every 5 minutes?

It definitely feels like a continuation of "Visitations" sounds so far, which isn't a bad thing at all as I loved that album,  it's probably my favourite from the band. "Free Not Free" is utterly fantastic, it's a great choice for a first single and I can't wait until the 1st to get it. "Corpus Christie" is a nice eerie little rocker, that constant thump of the drums really gives it this menacing driving force. And I like "The Witch", but I've got to say...it really sounds similar to a lot of stuff off the last record. I don't want that to be misconstrued that I think it's bad or I'm like Pitchfork complaining about them not changing their sound, far from it. I just get this sense of deja vu when I hear it but I can't exactly place what it reminds me of. It kinda sounds like the riff from "The Cape" put over the melody of "Gideon". Or maybe not, I could be totally wrong. Either way I still really like the song just like I really like the other 2 and I'm even more excited for this album than I was before. I have a feeling I'm going to be playing these three songs over and over again in the next few months. I can already feel the urge to listen to "Free Not Free" again.

great session! loved all i heard

'free not free' is just a good time for all... mellow, pretty, groovy... thumbs up on this one

'the witch' is kind of typical-sounding for clinic but nevertheless still ranks as classic clinic in my book

for me, 'corpus christie' was the most BADASS of the bunch

great shit... really stands out as something different and unique for this album so far... got a really creepy atmosphere to it; the main guitar riff really makes it (sort of reminds me of some other band i cant put my finger on... sonic youth, maybe?)

and i love how at one point it just builds up and up and you're expecting the requisite clinic explosive climax (a la 'thank you') but then it just casually seques back into the verse... very slick, very cool

i also love the whispered "corp-us... christ-ie" chants just as the drums kick in and again during the false climax... i hope this comes in really clear and sinister on the album

all in all a great preview for the album! i can only hope the rest of 'do it' matches the brilliance of corpus christie... again, that was a SWEET tune
