to update the feature class of one of the layers.

(Based upon the coordinates I can work out which database table the feature

My current idea is to put a synchronous call to a bespoke PHP during the

Hi All,

I have developed a generic tool which I would like to use for multiple projects. The generic tool is an asp.net application which I will load using Invoke URL command.

All my projects are hosted in a web server. eg. http://proj1.mycompany.com, http://proj2.mycompany.com. Both these websites have to use the generic tool. So, my question is can I deploy my generic tool to the server only once and reuse it using the Invoke URL command? I tried it but the tool works only when it is deployed within the project specific locations. For eg., I need to deploy the tool once within the proj1 directory and again within the proj2 directory for the tool to work with both the websites.

In simple terms, when I invoke the generic tool based on some application logic, the tool will finally zoom in to a particular location on the map. So, I will use the Viewer's ZoomToView command. To do this, I will get the handle of the viewer frame. I am unable to do this when the tool is not deployed within the project directory.

Is there a feasible solution or am I failing to understand something here?

Thanks for your time.
OK, I understand that I can grab the runtime map and use the API to alter it.
The question is, where do I put the code to do this? For the Ajax viewer
I've traced the code to JavaScript in ajaxmappane.templ, where functions
like Pan() end up calling RequestMap(). But RequestMap() posts to
mapagent.fcgi - in other words an impasse.

That problem sounds different, because you want it done *after* the
runtime map creation.
After you have created the runtime map, you can use the MapGuide API to
manipulate the runtime map,
as well as the layers:
http://mapguide.osgeo.org/files/mapguide/docs/webapi/da/df8/class_mg_map.htm

The GetLayers() call returns a MgLayerCollection object:
http://mapguide.osgeo.org/files/mapguide/docs/webapi/dc/df0/class_mg_layer_collection.htm

Regards, Kenneth Skovhede, GEOGRAF A/S

gingerbbm skrev:

> I don't mind at all; thanks for doing it.
>
> Just as an addendum to this discussion about adjusting map configuration
> dynamically, my next challenge is to update the feature class of a layer
> based upon the current map centre point. In other words, as the user drags
> the map around, at certain positions the underlying database table for one
> of my layers needs to change.
>
> Back towards the start of this thread, one of the suggestions for adjusting
> the intial map view was:
>
> "2. modify the ajaxviewer"
>
> Is this my only option to set a layer's feature class dynamically? My
> current thinking is to override specific tools (such as pan) to call a
> custom PHP which ultimately redirects to the Ajax Viewer.
>
> Any thoughts on this?

I generally agree with the "give back if you take" mentality of open source
projects, especially this one. But this particular problem lies at the core
of the DWF writer (eplot) which only Autodesk developers seem to be familiar
with. And, the customers that I know of that have this problem all use
MapGuide Enterprise so it would seem that the complaint is valid. Perhaps
the open source discussion list is not the correct place to voice this and
should instead be done on the Autodesk discussion groups.

By the way, this whole round-tripping problem has existed since the MapGuide
6 days where we could plot a map to DWF, but it had no spatial intelligence
You know it's this an open source project, if you have customers who want it,
have you
considered putting some resources YOURSELF into fixing this problem on behalf
of your customers?
ANYBODY WORKING ON THIS OR IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS and Why is the ticket so
Old and of a low importance this is a huge functionality???
I utilized The EPLOT code to output a Mapguide AJAX map out to DWF using
mappingService.GeneratePlot and When I am able to mark the map up in Design
Review but unfortunately measure is useless as well as roundtriping back
into a DWG is useless NEITHER WORK...it obviously does not send out
georeferenced information as does map when you Plot...Another Oddball
occurunce it will publish data on only the topmost layer to have data
attributes and no others...Man This is SO CLOSE TO PERFECT FOR ROUND
TRIPPING DATA...PLease Someone Fix This...I have Customers Who desperately
hold their collective breaths for such a solution for once
> However, is there a way to generate a DWF out of the MapGuide which is
> more "geo-aware", which contains inside the DWF information
about the
> map extent which the DWF covers, and where ADR can make use of tools
> like Measure and their geo-referencing ability?
mappingService.GeneratePlot and When I am able to mark the map up in Design
Review but unfortunately measure is useless as well as roundtriping back
into a DWG is useless NEITHER WORK...it obviously does not send out
georeferenced information as does map when you Plot...Another Oddball

However, is there a way to generate a DWF out of the MapGuide which is
more "geo-aware", which contains inside the DWF information about the
map extent which the DWF covers, and where ADR can make use of tools
like Measure and their geo-referencing ability?

The FeatureSource looks ok.

You need to look at how it is all built up:

1 x WebLayout -> 1 x MapDefintion -> 1+ x LayerDefinition ->
FeatureSource (one pr. layer)

So, your LayerDefinition references the FeatureSource, which is
allright.
The MapDefinition references the maps, but does not replicate the
content of the LayerDefinition.

To look at the Xml, I reccomend that you try out Maestro:
http://trac.osgeo.org/mapguide/wiki/maestro

Within Maestro, you can click the "Edit Xml" button, and see how a
working MapDefinition looks.
I guess I can do a GetResourceContent() on my polygon layer and insert its
XML into my Map Definition XML. But the polygon layer's XML references a
feature source defined as:

<FeatureSource xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="FeatureSource-1.0.0.xsd" version="1.0.0">
<Provider>OSGeo.SDF</Provider>
  <Parameter>
    <Name>File</Name>
     <Value>%MG_DATA_FILE_PATH%RedlineLayer.sdf</Value>
     </Parameter>
  <Parameter>
    <Name>ReadOnly</Name>
    <Value>FALSE</Value>
  </Parameter>
</FeatureSource>

1. Does this look right?
2. Do I need to insert this XML anywhere?

Thanks
