RE: MapGuide RFC 51 - Raster Re-projectionThis is a beautiful. I figured something like this must be coming given the
ability to provide coordinate system overrides for raster datasources. This has long been an issue for many clients and the 25% performance cost will likely be acceptable for most in light of not needing to pre-process all of the data. My only worry is that this might cause additional instability to the already unstable FDO Autodesk Raster and GDAL providers. I would hope that those instability issues be ironed out prior to introducing new raster features. Andy Morsell, P.E. Raster stability issues. was MapGuide RFC 51 - Raster Re-projectionHi Andy,
Is any progress being made on the raster issues? I saw an email from Frank saying that he was looking for a MG developer in the Ottawa area, but I don't think anything came of that. RE: Raster stability issues. was MapGuide RFC 51 - Raster Re-projectionHi Tom,
I don't think that any progress is being made on the GDAL provider at the moment. Frank is really looking for core FDO / MapGuide developers to assist in this issue rather than MapGuide integrators and API programmers like most of us. I volunteered to contribute $500 to the effort. But, as far as I know, nobody has stepped up. I'm not really sure who has the abilities to assist in solving this problem other than Autodesk or a select few developers out there. RE: MapGuide RFC 51 - Raster Re-projectionHi Tony,

RE: Raster stability issues. was MapGuide RFC 51 - Raster Re-projectionHi Andy,
If anyone can step up, I'm pretty sure that Autodesk developers can help answer questions or give pointers if asked (as opposed to sitting down and working through this). I would like to see this resolved as soon as possible, however I'm currently not in a position to be able to help :(. BTW, as far as I know the Autodesk MapGuide Enterprise 2009 raster support is stable. Have you found different, perhaps we should continue this particular part of the discussion over private email. RE: MapGuide RFC 51 - Raster Re-projectionHi Haris,
I remember that discussion on coordinate projection related to fdo, which included client utilities in general (see http://trac.osgeo.org/fdo/wiki/FdoClientUtilities). However, it never progressed very far. There were a number of options, provide projection support as a client utility, include a wrapper around fdo, or include within fdo. This still remains on the fdo futures list and is still open for discussion in that forum. However, the raster re-projection support seems important and I wouldn't hold it up pending a possible future change to how fdo may do this. If we ever do something in fdo around this, then we can migrate code as necessary -- it would impact vector re-projection as well. Thanks, Orest. -----Original Message----- From: mapguide-internals-bounces@... RE: MapGuide RFC 51 - Raster Re-projectionHi Orest,
Thanks for reply, yes I remember that discussion and I hope we will do something in that direction. I see, as you and Andy wrote that this feature is important and understand that it should not wait for bigger changes to happen. It would be nice while developing this new feature to have in background of mind possibility of future changes. Thanks, Haris -----Original Message----- From: mapguide-internals-bounces@... Lacking assistance from a core MapGuide developer, I'm not willing to bury myself in this issue. Tony - consider renaming the TileSize parameter to GridSize. We already use the word "tile" in the context of the TileService, and using a different name would reduce confusion. Agg (was MapGuide RFC 51 - Raster Re-projection)Hmm.
Guess that means you're happy with the AGG renderer... I could have sworn there was already a ticket for this (islands disappearing on a world map) but couldn't find it. Although I love the enhancements that the AGG renderer brings, this kind of generalization through deletion is not exactly cartographically pleasing: http://trac.osgeo.org/mapguide/ticket/632 Jason -----Original Message----- From: Walt Welton-Lair Subject: [mapguide-internals] RE: MapGuide RFC 51 - Raster Re-projection GD renderer will (hopefully) soon be removed.
