Making things better for the blind.

Hello friends.

As I have recently been experimenting a lot with QTSS I came across this
idea.

What if we read the FAQ and other bits and pieces of the web-site and
recorded those readings.

Individual parts or the whole bits could then be streamed to those who
are visually impaired or blind (yes I know they would have a braille
system as well).

Getting this done is not all too hard to do, I would even volunteer to
keep the infrastructure running and I will happily read the german and
english text (albeit I feel someone from the UK would be a better choice
to read the English parts).

Well, just an idea.

bye

Well, maybe a good idea, though I wonder why not commencing at the beginning: installation and the man page.

And also a true working package in gnome for eyes impaired people would be nice.

Individual parts or the whole bits could then be streamed to those who

Not all of them I fear, due to the price of such equipment.

I may read the French parts if it comes to a reality.

Where would those streams be stored?

Of course, I would read Japanese, or hire someone with cute voice.
Indeed, VoiceOver and Speech do not support Japanese (and I believe
many other languages) at all, and your proposal would be a big
progress for Japanese (potential) users.

I need to point out that, as I search on the net, people with those
problems use the computers in different ways. So, we really need to
talk to these people to make things better.

Thanks

I've begun to put on Finch the audio transcript of the faq into French. It is in aac, but I have the aif files on my drive if the quality of aac is not good enough.

To get an idea of what the result is, you may browse:

Chapters 1 and 2 are online.

Tell me if it is suitable.

This is nice. It's good to hear French even I understands only 10%. :o)

So, how do we deliver it? PodCast? Link from our website? If so, how do we design? Any other possibility?
