Making the Graphing Engine work

From what I gather, to make CF's graphing engine work, one needs to install additional X components. But when I looked at my installation CD, there are so many X components CD (so many RPMs beginning with 'x'). I tried running the installation CD, but when I am installing the packages, my CD rom is having troubles reading the succeeding disks. So I tried it FTP old style, but I am bombed with dependencies, and I am not even sure if I am installing the right RPMs.

Can anyone shed some light on what RPMs should really be installed, and which components would really make the graphing work? I have read a post here, actually, but it only says, "install X". I am beguiled, but far from having it actually work.

What Linux/*nix version ?
Almost all of them come with a program called a 'package manager' to sort out
the downloading and dependancies for you.

You DO need X, if you install a server with no X windows stuff, it
won't work.

I have a vague recollection of also needing an x11-compat package on
Fedora.
The dependency is a JVM issue and not CF as such as well. I found some
of the supporting utilities that come with the JVM wouldn't work until
this set of libraries are installed.

For the life of me I can't remember the additional package I needed
and I didn't write it down - it appears I didn't have this issue when I
shifted the CF server from Fedora Core 4 to Redhat AS4.

It's a Fedora Core 4. I don't download the packages, I have them on a CD. My CD-rom just goes nuts and won't read the second disk.

So you mean, in order for me to make the graphing engine work, I have to install the GUI? I have the X-windows installed already, but it seems that I need something more than the X-windows system itself. Thanks, anyway.

The 'client' side libraries, yes. You don't need the X 'Server' though
as you don't need to run X on the console.

I think it will be this extra 'compat' library issue I had with
Fedora. I'm sorry I can't remember the package name that fixed it for me.

Have you checked it's checksum / md5sum / run the media check via the
installer ?

Are you not on a network with the FC box ?
