Mail RelayI am maintaining servers for several different organizations at
different physical locations. I would like to setup the servers so that if the network access to "@company1.org" is lost (due to hardware failure, for example), all mail for "company1.org" will be sent to "company2.org" where it will be frozen until the "company1.org" server come back online and mail can be delivered. Currently, I have "company1.org" and "company2.org" in the domains.tab for both servers. On the company1 server, I have smtpfwd.tab to point mail for "company2.org" to "mail.company2.org", and vice-versa on company2 server. So far, it doesn't seem to be working. Is what I'm trying to do possible, or will that mail be dropped when connection is unavailable? Is there another tab-file that needs editing? Would it require a filter to do? Thanks for your help. -Jayson Keidel - To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe xmail" in the body of a message to ecartis@... For general help: send the line "help" in the body of a message to ecartis@... |

For example : For "company1.org" : MX PRI 10 mail.company1.org --> Should be already there... MX PRI 50 mail.company2.org --> To be added (backup-mx). Re: Mail Relaylol... sry, should've mentioned that.
I do have the mx records setup correclty. I did the setup many months ago and only a few days ago one of the servers lost all connection (someone put a shovel in the wrong place digging for gold, i guess) and noticed lots of mail getting and ERELAY on the other server. Re: Mail RelayThis what I tried some time ago.
On the backup server (company2.org), create a customdomain tab for company1.org Filename: MailRoot/custdomains/company1.org.tab content: "smtprelay"<tab>"mail.company1.org"<newline> It worked for me... Re: Mail RelayMX backups with two xmail server is a recurring topic :)
General setup is : A - Set the 'mx backup server' as an MX for the domain (a lowest priority is generaly set for the backup, except if you want to add 'mx load balancing' feature to the basic 'mx backup on primary mx failure' feature) B - on the 'mx backup server' you have two main different methods to do the 'mx backup' job : B.1 - CUSTOM DOMAIN MAIL PROCESSING(http://www.xmailserver.org/Readme.html#custom_domain_mail_process ing) Don't add the domain as an 'handled' domain on the 'mx backup server' but simply add a 'custdomains' tab file with a "SMTPRELAY" command, ie : For domain mydomain.com existing on 'primary server', add this file in the ''mx backup server' : <mailroot>/custdomains/mydomain.com.tab with this content : "smtprelay"[TAB]"primary_mx_fqdn_or_ip"[NEWLINE] The problem with this easy to setup mx backup is that the 'mx backup server' will accept ANY mail for the domain even if the destination mail address is invalid or not existing on the 'primary server'. The alternative 'B.2' setup, does not have this problem, the 'mx backup server' will reject immediatly unknow destinations :) B.2 - Use cmdaliases files on the 'mx backup server' (preferred method against 'accounts' with mailproc files) B.2.1 - Setup the backup to handle the target domain B.2.2 - For each 'primary server' emails to 'mx backup', on the 'mx backup server' create a corresponding "cmdaliases" file, ie : For the 'primary server' email myuser@..., create on the 'mx backup server' the file <mailroot>/cmdaliases/mydomain.com/myuser.tab containing only this line : "smtprelay"[TAB]"primary_mx_fqdn_or_ip"[NEWLINE] That's all :) (Could Davide add a chapter/annex on xmail doc for 'general mx backup setup with xmail' ? If yes Davide, you are free to reuse my post and adapt if you want :) ) Francis -----Message d'origine----- De: xmail-bounce@... A: xmail@... Re: Mail Relaythankyou all for the help
I'll give these a shot (now that other more pressing problems w/ other software is fixed) -Jayson CLEMENT Francis wrote: > MX backups with two xmail server is a recurring topic :) > > General setup is : > > A - Set the 'mx backup server' as an MX for the domain > (a lowest priority is generaly set for the backup, except if you want to add > 'mx load balancing' feature to the basic 'mx backup on primary mx failure' > feature) > > B - on the 'mx backup server' you have two main different methods to do the > 'mx backup' job : > > B.1 - CUSTOM DOMAIN MAIL > PROCESSING(http://www.xmailserver.org/Readme.html#custom_domain_mail_process > ing) > > Don't add the domain as an 'handled' domain on the 'mx backup server' but > simply add a 'custdomains' tab file with a "SMTPRELAY" command, ie : > > For domain mydomain.com existing on 'primary server', add this file in the > ''mx backup server' : > > <mailroot>/custdomains/mydomain.com.tab > > with this content : > > "smtprelay"[TAB]"primary_mx_fqdn_or_ip"[NEWLINE] > > The problem with this easy to setup mx backup is that the 'mx backup server' > will accept ANY mail for the domain even if the destination mail address is > invalid or not existing on the 'primary server'. > The alternative 'B.2' setup, does not have this problem, the 'mx backup > server' will reject immediatly unknow destinations :) > > B.2 - Use cmdaliases files on the 'mx backup server' > (preferred method against 'accounts' with mailproc files) > > B.2.1 - Setup the backup to handle the target domain > > B.2.2 - For each 'primary server' emails to 'mx backup', on the 'mx backup > server' create a corresponding "cmdaliases" file, ie : > > For the 'primary server' email myuser@..., create on the 'mx backup > server' the file > > <mailroot>/cmdaliases/mydomain.com/myuser.tab > > containing only this line : > > "smtprelay"[TAB]"primary_mx_fqdn_or_ip"[NEWLINE] > > > That's all :) > > > (Could Davide add a chapter/annex on xmail doc for 'general mx backup setup > with xmail' ?
