Mail Archiver plugin-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1 Hello, first of all thanks for a great program! I was pleasantly surprised to find the MailArchiver plugin. However, it seems that it is archiving just everything in one or more folder. Would it be possible to have a cut-off date e.g. everything older than Jan.1st 2008? I'm doing yearly archives (currently manually) because it is very rare that I need mails older than 2 years. I spend considerable time to move messages to various folders. Right now I produce a copy of the database containing only messages older than x days; I compress and store it safely. Then I delete messages older x days from the current database. If necessary (maybe once or twice per year) I decompress the archive and make a text search for whatever I'm looking for (grep -r 'search words' * works best for me). Thinking about it, would it be difficult to define such an archive database in the configuration and then have a 'archive search' options just searching the specified archive db? Re: Mail Archiver plugin-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1 Hello Michael, I spent most of yesterday to build 3.6.0 Debian packages. The archiver plugin is working and I managed to archive some thousands of mails from 2006. There are a few minor things I noticed: I entered the target file name without using the selection button. That caused Claws to crash - probably because the file could not be created at the root (noticed that the selecten button returns the complete path: e.g. /home/myname/mailarchive The target filename is taken 'as is'. Would it be possible to add an extension matching the compression chosen? If the date is entered in an incorrect format the program seems to crash as well. Mail deletion is slow (almost 1 sec per mail) and if you have selected the same directory it will update the message view after each deletion of a mail. Not sure whether this can be helped. It is not really critically assuming that people don't archive their mail all every day. Besides that thanks for a very useful plugin, Kind regards, Bernd On Fri, 17 Oct 2008 22:42:41 +0200 Michael Rasmussen <mir@...> wrote: > On Sun, 12 Oct 2008 18:49:30 +0200 > Michael Rasmussen <mir@...> wrote: > > > > Added this feature and also added the feature to have the archiver > delete messages which are included in the archive. > > Get it from cvs if you would like to test it. > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAkj63MkACgkQpYU8M8PbPV6CEQCguvOThfP7tA8AyMo3KpUshEsV buEAnR/A+od43kddxaHn4Dr9y2ApploF =myVo -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Check. I am aware of this annoyance. The reason is that after a file is deleted the window is reordered (applying sorting, action and rules). I will have to figure out how to manually suppress all this while deleting messages. > > Besides that thanks for a very useful plugin, > You are welcome.
