Yes, you are right. Wrong offset in wdt_a.h. Fixed in repository:

Are there any roadmaps for MSPGCC development? Does anybody know if there will be support for MSP430X and memory above 64kb in the foreseeable future?
I have looked at trying to modify the gcc sources myself but got nowhere, not having much experience with the code behind gcc.

I imagine that adding some rudimentary support for upper memory (bra/calla instructions?) would be trivial after the work already done to port gcc to the MSP processor, is this not the case?
If mspgcc does however now support calling functions above 0xFFFF, can somebody please point out how. The linker is happy to put functions there, however calls and branches are truncated to 16 bits and thus do not call the correct code (I tried this with the 2008-12-30 release today).

I hope we will see the support soon, since the MSP430X architecture must be about 2 years old by now!

I have added a patch file for binutils 2.19 to the packaging/patches directory on the cvs server, this includes all the patches for 2.18. Binutils 2.19 builds ok with gcc-4.3.2 also.

I2C Initialisation Problem

I've been attempting to get I2C working on a msp430xG4618 configuration
without any success. Examples are hard to come by for mspgcc tool chain.
Here's my init sequence:

Oops. I meant '23x0 (I was using the MSP430F2330).

I tried several different versions of gdb-proxy under Windows
XP using 2-3 different DLLs and none of them worked, they all
reported that the part wasn't supported using both the TI USB
JTAG interface and the TI parallel port interface.

I tried freshly downloaded copies of both gdb-proxy (linux and
windows) and libraries from soft-switch.org. I also tried
versions that I had used successfuly with other MSP430
variants. They all reported that the part wasn't supported.

Which part are you using?
I'm using gdb-proxy with a 2410 and the TI USB debugger, it works fine
in windows and in Linux under wine.

I am not sure where I downloaded my copy of the proxy or the dll's
from so I have previously hosted the copy of proxy and the dll's that
I use for other people (see list history) at

Yes.

I had the same problem with MSP430F24x0. It worked fine with
IAR and CC debuggers, but was not supported by gdb-proxy either
under Linux or under Windows (not even when using the .dll
files taken from the IAR or CC directories).

There was no solution.

I offered to help troubleshoot/fix the problem, but offers went
unacknowledged. I even went so far as to offer to sign an NDA.
Again, ignored.

TI's customer support is horrible, and the MSP430 JTAG
implementation sucks (both the HW in the part and the software
tools support). The MSP430 would be a great part if it wasn't
so painful to use.

so, has anyone used gdbproxy with the msp430f5438 ? I've been trying to make it work for some days now, both with the linux and windows version of gdbproxy, but all I get is a message saying "could not find device (or device not supported)"...
When I have tried it from windows, it would work with IAR and code composer, but then if I copy the dll's these programs are using and try to make them work with gdbproxy, I get the above message... has anyone else here seen this problem?

Guess I should have read the Docs 1st , although reading MAINTAINER docs doesn't seem at all obvious for a user, tends to imply use by a package maintainer, not your average joe blogs who wants to compile the code .. just my 2c.

yes, i could activate one. now they have even two options on sf.net. a
mediawiki and wikispaces. so which one is better? i used the later in an
other project. it works but it doesn't seem to be the fastest when
loading a page. mediawiki is probably more popular but i have not
administered that one myself yet.

Success!! The tools have finally built under Ubuntu ....

So the key changes are:

1. Adding directories to packaging called "build" and "archives"

2. Installing the gcc-3.4 compiler on the host. (The current gcc-4.2.1 won't work).

3. Adding the option "CC=gcc-3.4" on the "make" line ..

Hope this helps someone else.

Maybe the first thing the "new" wiki should contain is build instruction for both windoze and linux using the packaging directory, as this is not documented anywhere.
