MM 8.6 downgrade?

We recently got upgraded to 8.6 and in general we find it difficult to use. Many of the features we relied on, features we preferred over other calendars, are gone. We miss the IM feature, the ability to tile many calendars, the overlay when more than one event was on a calendar at the same time. We are having problems with meetings being proposed to rooms, rather than through schedulers.

Has anyone found any ways to get around these "improvements"?
