MIT and the Global AgeDear Victor
I've read the Hockfield MIT speech and it's good enough. And MIT is good enough. But, all the places at the table would seem to be already occupied by good people doing good things. Design is everywhere implicated but no where obvious. Such is the reality of the paddock. cheers keith russell oz newcastle |

Re: MIT and the Global Agevictor, keith,
I haven't read it through thoroughly, but it makes some familiar noises such as collaboration and border crossing (i.e. interdisciplinarity). The UK is well aware of the importance of both issues and this is illustrated and articulated well in the George Cox Review of the Creative Industries in the UK. There are good examples of both here - the likes of the University of the Arts, London and Cranfield University's collaboration towards a creative design centre and the likes of the RCA, Imperial College, London and the Tanaka Business school forming the collaborative venture Design London. There are also some great design individuals and organisations working between and across the borders of design disciplines, art, architecture and engineering. See, for instance, the work of Moritz Waldemeyer, TROIKA, HeHe, Jason Bruges to name just a few. From my perspective there are other tables that are good enough occupied by great people and there are certainly empty spaces if you want to come to dinner?
