Layer Sets (Layer Grouping)?I'm a novice GIMP & Photoshop 7 user (color, smudge, cut and paste).
I've fallen in love with the layer sets layer grouping feature in Photoshop. Is this possible with GIMP? |

I don't know about "sets", but you can group layers: In the Layer pallet, click the space between the eye and layer icons on each layer you want to group. A chain link will appear show that layer is now linked. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Never miss a thing. Re: Layer Sets (Layer Grouping)? Thanks for your reply.
I am familar with linking layers in GIMP. "Layer Sets" is a Photoshop term for adding multiple layers to a folder within the layer palette. this allows for a "cleaner" palette and also to apply certain functions to all layers in the folder (i.e. turn on/off, link). It can really simplify life! --- In gimpwin-users@..., Greg <greg_b@...> wrote: > > --- toomuchcoffeenotenoughsleep <toomuchcoffeenotenoughsleep@...> > wrote: > > I'm a novice GIMP & Photoshop 7 user (color, smudge, cut and paste). > > I've fallen in love with the layer sets layer grouping feature in > > Photoshop. Just to get a "cleaner" palette this plugin could be a little step in the desired direction: http://gimp-registry.fargonauten.de/node/207 Regards Michael |

Re: Layer Sets (Layer Grouping)?Thank you for the link, it sounds like an interesting plug-in but I
can't use it as of yet. I assume I need a plug-in for gimp to use python scripts, so I downloaded <a href="http://gimp-registry.fargonauten.de/node/9">minimal-real_1.py</a>... I'm not sure if I've tried to load that correctly, either. I've tried layoutlinlayers and minimal-real in the plugins and again in the scripts folder; i've had one in the plugis and the other in the sripts , and vice versa. I did a quick look in the forums at the plugin site and <a href="http://gimp-registry.fargonauten.de/node/917">found</a>: ">All-in-all I have installed these files in Windows. This is roughly >the order I used (obviously I forgot pygobject until last, but the >rest were in order.) >gtk-2.8.20-win32-1.exe >python-2.5.2.msi >numpy-1.0.4.win32-py2.5.msi >pycairo-1.4.12-1.win32-py2.5.exe >pygobject-2.14.1-1.win32-py2.5.exe >pygtk-2.12.1-1.win32-py2.5.exe >gimp-2.4.4-i686-setup.exe" Would I need any of files above also for your plug-in? (aside from gimp & gtk, ofcourse) I am also having trouble with toglayvis, could this be related? toglayvis now shows in Layer->Stack, but seems to have no effect. Also, it shows up in the plug-in browser with a copyright of 2005. Opening the file in word pad shows a more recent 2007. -Thanks again --- In gimpwin-users@..., "michaelhoelzende" <MichaelHoelzen@...> wrote: > > --- In gimpwin-users@..., "toomuchcoffeenotenoughsleep" > <toomuchcoffeenotenoughsleep@> wrote: > > > > I'm a novice GIMP & Photoshop 7 user (color, smudge, cut and paste). > > I've fallen in love with the layer sets layer grouping feature in > > Photoshop.
