LG VX-9700 Dare with MacOS 10.5.5 "HowTo"

Here are the steps I needed to take to make BitPim (1.0.7 test
release) find the Dare on Mac OS 10.5.5.

First, pair the phone to the mac:

1) enable discoverable mode on the mac
2) make the phone search for devices
3) enter a random PIN on the phone
4) enter same PIN on mac when it asks
5) in Bluetooth Preferences pane, select the phone then use the manage
menu below (the gear icon) and select "Configure Device".
6) The only option it offers is dialup networking.  I de-selected
this, and hit continue.  It then created the /dev entry for the device

Now, run BitPim and it will discover the phone after about a minute or
so.  If it does not, remove your bitpim data directory from your home
directory and try again.  I had several failed attempts at connecting
via USB and bluetooth before I figured out I needed to do step 5-6
above, and until I deleted the data dir, it didn't work at all.

To get data from the AddressBook app, just select the group to export,
then export it as a "group vcard".  BitPim will import this perfectly
and send it to the phone properly.  The only issue is if you have
multiple work or multiple fax numbers for a contact, one of them will
not make it to the phone, and bitpim will report it as an unsupported
format, which is a bit confusing at first.

To get data from iCal, export the calendar and import it as
"iCalendar" format.  Unfortunately for this phone, you need to use the
import "Filter" option to have BitPim ignore older calendar entries
since there seems to be a 300 item limit on the phone.  The Filter
feature seems to cause an error in the application every time I try to
use it.  Otherwise, the calendar items come over just perfectly.

Thanks to the folks on this list for pointers and tips to get this working.

Have you tried SMS?   I'm able to pull the SMS messages off the Dare
but can't "put" them back on.

No, I have not.  My only interest was to push the contacts and
calendar onto my wife's new phone.  It hadn't even occurred to me to
try to copy other data in any direction.  If I get a chance I might
try it, but she doesn't let me play with her phone much :-)
