Sorry about that, this is a known issue with the MSI installer:

uninstalling the older version first:
http://docs.activestate.com/komodo/4.4/install.html#Upgrading_Win...but we didn't make this clear in some of the release announcements
that were sent out. If the bug above doesn't get fixed before the next
release, we'll make sure the upgrade instructions are clear in our
announcements.
