Why contribute to Koha?

Hello,

I am a Ph.D. candidate in Instructional Technology at the University of Tennessee. My dissertation focuses on what motivates people to contribute to F/OSS projects. Though it may seem obvious to you, many non-programmers are still suspicious of OSS and think there must be a catch. Can you help me to demonstrate why talented programmers are willing to work for free? My survey should take no more than 15 minutes and asks for no identifying information.

In Fedora 9, with KOHA 3.00.00 and after all the setup, when i go to my koha opac page for first time, i get the error:

"production mode - trapped fatal error"

I look at and find about this error, and tried other solutions (like the perl-dependencies losed, or reinstallation of someones -CGI::Session and anothers-). I can see, in the koha log file this:

[Mon Dec 01 18:33:45 2008] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] [Mon Dec 1 18:33:45 2008] opac-main.pl: BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /var/www/html-virtuals/koha/opac/cgi-bin/opac/opac-main.pl line 22.

the line 22 of opac-main.pl contains:

use C4::Auth; # get_template_and_user

and the same error when i entered in koha-intranet, and the line of the error is similar (when reference to C4::***)

I check the variable PERL5LIB in apache configuration, and it's ok:

SetEnv KOHA_CONF "/etc/koha/koha-conf.xml"
SetEnv PERL5LIB "/var/www/html-virtuals/koha/lib"

inside each VirtualHost (OPAC and intranet)

When I test all the possible (failed) solutions, I have SELinux and firewall disabled (to avoid problems)

Someone know what is the problem (or can be)??

Do a search for search for the hosts file located in ...WINDOWS/system32/drivers/etc
(use the search function from the Windows XP start menu)

Open the hosts file with notepad you should see something like this:

This file basically controls what can be opened on a local intranet by the browser, so in order to run
Koha we need to give it permission by adding these two lines immediately below that localhost line.

127.0.0.1 opac # Koha Library Software OPAC
127.0.0.1 intranet # Koha Library Software INTRANET

Save the file and then try to run the OPAC and INTRANET from the browser again.

I have been using such configuration and it seems to be a very good approach.
If you install a SAMBA server with Koha 3.0 ou can easly browse and edit any files with Windows tools.
I added SQLYog to connect with database and then I can manage all tables and information.

problem with Koha 2.2.9

problem with mysql administrator

Prpblem: When we install Koha 2.2.9, it is missing a file; C: / Program Files / MySQL / MySQL Server 4.1 /bin / mysqldump.exe.

We have installed Koha successfully with the file, and inadvertently destroyed this install. So we know it can be done. This allows us to save data using the MySQL administrator. But on many re-installs (about 10) we are having the same problem. We tried to install Guide tools for MySQL, but these so not solve the problem. We have also used MySQl version 5.0.67, with the same results, i.e that file "mysqldump.exe" is missing.

Can anyone suggest a solution? Is there a patch we can apply?

I tried to edit the member entry.pl file line 217 to my %flags = ('gonenoaddress' => ['gonenoaddress', 'Gone no address'], as suggested in one of the forums but still the problem is there. Once you register them as a borrower in Koha - you can go into permissions and grant them user rights.(you as Admin have to do that) as they only get permissions as great as the one who is editing their record. So circ staff could setup another circ staff person, but if they don't have rights to edit bib records then the new person wouldn't be able to do that either. Make sense?

So far no one has reported success in installing Koha 3.0 on Windows.
Version 2.2.9 is working well on Windows if you would like to try it.
Here is the link to the Windows documentation and dependencies:

Be sure to read the instructions linked from that page
(http://www.koha.rwjr.com/Koha_on_Windows.html). They walk you
through steps like getting your Perl directory right. Also note that
you should use mysql 4 because mysql 5 is not compatible at this time.

Hello i'm from Bolivia i have to migrate a library system, this is done with WiniSIS and i was searching the different kinds of ILMS software and i choosed koha, and i wanna know how can i install with XAMP,LAMP,EasyPHP or AppServ. I tried but i can't do it well. and that is not all, if i can install koha then i'll need to migrate the data in winisis to koha.
I'm triying to install on windows xp service pack2.

I found an installation instructional video at the following page.

Unable to find perl in c:\usr

How does the Koha2.2.9 Win32 installer identify where ActiveState
perl is installed?

The Koha2.2.9 Win32 installer found my existing installation of

koha issue date problem

i have koha 2.2.9 for windows when issuing books v need to specify the due date, with month day and year colum, in year color till 2008 is available, but on jan1 2009 means,how come v can issue,since the year 2009,2010 etc is not included....is there anywhere to change the modification of modules..if so where!!,

in circulation issues is set till 2008 when issuing a book and while giving that book v need to choose the date,month,day,year is given till 2008,suppose if v need to issue a book by jan 1 2009 means,how to add years like 2009,2010 etc,where to add,only till 2008 dec 31 they have included how to include the years more,can anyone find for me,thanks in advance who s going to help me

u need to connect to the server of library for accessing,so that opac n intranet wil be live........intranet s the admin one or library admin can manage and opac is the users or member in library for catalog search,hope ds helps u

I have conducted a few Koha workshops for the users who have not IT expertise. Most of the participants were the professional librarians having minimal IT knowledge. Those workshops were based upon Hands on practice and practical work. You may find those lectures and step by step "How to" guides to start Koha.
