Cannot keep changes in MARC framework for Authority MARC Framework: PERSO_NAME Framework

Dear all,

Somehow I seem to be unable to keep changes to the Personal Name
authority's MARC Framework. I was trying to the set the "repeatable"
field to the 100 Tag (HEADING--PERSONAL NAME) by editing the MARC
framework in Administration->Authority Types, but after submitting my
changes to the field are gone. What am I doing wrong? (Working with
Koha 3.00.00.107)

comma separated reports and commas in author names

Hello,

Using a snapshot of 3.0 (ver. 3.01.00.001). When I generate a report
listing all the catalog items, includes a column for authors, and saving
that report comma separated, Base (OOo) treats the authors' last names
and first names as different columns (the two parts of names are
separated with commas). Is this something I cannot avoid while using
comma separated columns or has this problem not been noticed yet?

I then saved that report using tabs as separators and it worked properly
though.

So since Koha has this option of comma separated columns and I am
noticing commas in authors' names, perhaps either we (as in 'we in our
library') have the authors' names in a wrong format or the comma
separated option in Koha is kind of inappropriate for this purpose.
Comments?

z3950::ZOOM installation problem

Dear Member,
I am using ubuntu 8.04 for koha-3.00.00 installation.
I checked each perl modules and dependencies like libcrypt11-dev,
libcrypt11, libyaz, libyaz-dev, yaz .
Again Z3950 installation giving same error 255 and later I used force
install but Z3950 searching retrieve no result.
Earlier I have installed Net::Z3950::ZOOM module successfully now when
I tried to install on other machine its giving problem.

I came to know through koha discussion problem like

Forget it. Your item barcode issue doesn't come from that.

If CDS/ISIS doesn't allow you to export MARC records in the appropriate
format, you need to :

1. export you records from CDS/ISIS
2. convert them from CDS/ISIS format to Koha format
3. import the previous records into Koha

Depending on your skills, step 2 can be accomplished by several means:

* A Perl script using MARC library: http://marcpm.sourceforge.net/
* using MarcEdit: http://oregonstate.edu/~reeset/marcedit/

Just another 2 cents..

1) Does your system have a big enough swap file??
2) Is your system's swap usage getting high when your index crashes
at 34k?

try running a top to monitor this, during your rebuild...

$ top |grep Swap
Swap: 2650684k total, 1224176k used, 1426508k free, 270932k cached
Swap: 2650684k total, 1224176k used, 1426508k free, 270932k cached

if so , increase your swap partition..

It sounds like you might be hitting the limits of your system's ram
+swap.???

I use 'marc edit' tool for converting the CDS/ISIS file into marc and when i map 950=>952p, it does not do any conversion on the identifier. Hence I made the change in the database table 'marc_subfield_structure'.

In my point of view you need not to change anything in marc_subfield_structure

We have our library running on CDS/ISIS database. I use the bulkimport.pl script for loading into the mysql. Most of the fields get loaded into the database except for the barcode (accession #). Can someone let me know the possible reason for it. Can it be due to multiple values for the field? If so, please let me know how to resolve it since I've tried most of the attempts in the marc_subfield_structure table.

Please send a dump of your import file to get help. Few biblio records in text version generated with yaz-marcdump for example.

You probably need to bump up the maximum size that Zebra allows for
its register and shadow. These are set in zebra-biblios.cfg, Look
for entries like this:

register: /path/to/biblios/register:4G
shadow: /path/to/biblios/shadow:4G

The "4G" indicates that the register's maximum size is 4 gigabytes.

guided reports: only checkboxes, no criteria being shown

Hello,

I am trying to make a custom report by following this page:

On Step 4, the picture there shows checkboxes along with their meanings
(Type, Borrower category, Branch code, etc.). But on my interface, there
are only checkboxes no descriptions along with them. Is this a bug?

According to manual already I installed
libgcrypt11
libgcrypt11-dev
Still z3950::ZOOM modules giving problem during installation,facing
same problem what you have provided through links.

so What is the next step?

I had trouble getting this installed too. Unfortunately I didn't keep
records of what worked but I think that installing libcrypt was what I
needed in the end for my Ubuntu install. This post refers to a 255
error in installing 2.2.9 but I went ahead and did the same for
3.00.00:

Vijay,

I had trouble getting this installed too. Unfortunately I didn't keep
records of what worked but I think that installing libcrypt was what I
needed in the end for my Ubuntu install. This post refers to a 255
error in installing 2.2.9 but I went ahead and did the same for
3.00.00:

We have our library running on CDS/ISIS database. I use the bulkimport.pl script for loading into the mysql. Most of the fields get loaded into the database except for the barcode (accession #). Can someone let me know the possible reason for it. Can it be due to multiple values for the field? If so, please let me know how to resolve it since I've tried most of the attempts in the marc_subfield_structure table.

Please send a dump of your import file to get help. Few biblio records in text version generated with yaz-marcdump for example.

Mason, Rick, and Joe (and anyone else who was looking into this),

It turns out that the solution is much easier than we had been discussing.
Date::Manip is working just as expected and documented by checking for the
system's timezone in various places including environment variables, the shell
command `data`, and in /etc/timezone . The problem is that Date::Manip does not
know what to make of having "Pacific/Rarotonga" in /etc/timezone or "CKT" in the
output of `date`. Both of these are set by tzconfig.

To solve the problem, I reran tzconfig and set the timezone to Hawaii (the same
zone as the Cook Islands) which set /etc/timezone to "US/Hawaii" and the output
of `date` to "HST".

When I have time, I'll file this as a bug with the author of Date::Manip. I
assume he/she wants to support all of the timezones that ship with major linux
distros.

Timezones must be imported into mysql as well as present on the system. See the script:

mysql_tzinfo_to_sql

Rather than edit the files to modify ENV, you can put in your Apache2 configuration, for each VirtualHost (or the main config):

SetEnv TZ "CST"

z39.50 searching - Permanent system error

Hi:

I'm having trouble when I do z39.50 searching. Certain servers-- the New York Public Library [catnyp.nypl.org], or the Aurora Public Library [odyssey.aurora.lib.co.us] for example-- will yield hits for results, but then only give me the message:

1: Permanent system error: Permanent system error: Bib-1

I don't know that this is a bug, really, but I'm trying to figure out exactly what is happening. Question one: what does this error actually mean? It seems to occur consistently for certain searches (ISBN-13 978-1-59722-733-9, for example gives me the error for both Aurora and the NYP consistently) while other searches can run through the same servers without a hitch. Is the "system" error my system, or theirs? Or is there some sort of compatibility issue? Two: beyond figuring out what's happening, I ideally would love to be able use z39.50 with these systems-- are other libraries able to accomplish this?

Anyone else experienced this issue? There seem to be lots of servers that yield this error message-- I just listed these two as an example. (Incidentially, I'm using Koha 3.00.00.107)

Considering that it affects only one line of code that was already known to be broken, it seems unlikely to be unsafe.

whats the error?

ive have problems where rebuild_zebra.pl has barfed over not enough disk

try using the keep option

-k Do not delete export directory.

and watch the disk, my /tmp was blowing out on a 200k index

You probably need to bump up the maximum size that Zebra allows for
its register and shadow. These are set in zebra-biblios.cfg, Look
for entries like this:

register: /path/to/biblios/register:4G
shadow: /path/to/biblios/shadow:4G

The "4G" indicates that the register's maximum size is 4 gigabytes.

reindex_zebra.pl - out of memory

2 questions

1 - OK so when I run the reindex_zebra.pl with -r -w -b (I think those are the switches) I'm getting up to almost 34,000 records indexed and then getting Out of memory!

I've loaded - I believe - about 250,000 records. Surely I can reindex without loading it all into memory...?? What am I missing?

I loaded it in 3 batches and realized that the zebrasrv wasn't running so have been trying to rebuild the zebra indexes.

2 - what sql or? can I run to actually verify how many Biblio and items I have loaded into Koha?

I have referred the volunteer libraries to a couple of sites. One of
those sites, IIRC, has a online tutorial (perhaps flash based) on MARC.

That is very helpful. As I said earlier, I do have a library sciences
background, and I don't anybody else in the establishment has. But this
point at least makes me comfortable on what to do with the numbers they
already have.
