Kodak C813 with gPhotoHi;
Has anybody been able to use gPhoto with the Kodak C813 "EasyShare" camera? I have gPhoto as supplied with Debian Etch (gphoto2 2.2.0-3, libgphoto2-2 2.2.1-16) but have had no luck. But I think the C813 interface is probably the same as other EasyShare cameras if only at a basic level. Cheers -- Peter F Bradshaw: http://www.exadios.com (public keys avaliable there). I should have pointed out that I use the USB for other devices. For instance I drive a USB scanner using Sane. So the USB system on the whole works. Is there anything else I need to compile into the kernel? One of my problems is that I have never used a camera, with either the "EasyShare" software on Windows or gPhoto, in the past. So I'm unsure of what to expect. The camera's user manual directs me to connect the USB cable to the camera and turn its power on. The problem is that the camera will not power on with the cable connected. Further, if the camera is powered on and I connect the cable to the camera the power seems to go off (the camera's screen goes blank). However, the camera does not go through a power off cycle - that is the lense does not retract, etc. The power returns (screen lights up) when I remove the cable. When I look at the trouble shooting guide with these symptoms (on the Kodak Web site which, of course, references "EasyShare" software) it directs me to check whether the version of the software is >= 5.1. This implies to me that whether the camera powers on or not while connected has something to do with the software being run on the host computer. Does this sound right to you? Unfortunately I have not means to check the cable independantly right now. > > Ciao, Marcus > Cheers -- Peter F Bradshaw: http://www.exadios.com (public keys avaliable there). I have tried the camera on a Windows system with EasyShare software installed. The camera behaves on Windows in the same manner as described above - i.e. there is no indication that the camera is on when it is connected to the computer. However, EasyShare runs up about 3 seconds after the power button is depressed. I now have the camera working on Linux (Debian Etch) with the following: Linux goldmund 2.6.18-6-486 #1 Fri Jun 6 21:47:01 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux gphoto2 2.2.0-3 libgphoto2-2 2.2.1-16 libgphoto2-port0 2.2.1-16 In order to give non root users access it is necessary to add the users to group "plugdev". This group is specified by the following in /etc/udev/libgphoto2.rules: PROGRAM="check_ptp_camera 06/01/01", MODE="0660", GROUP="plugdev" The camera seems to power off after a few minutes of time out - again no visible indication of this other than it disappears from lsusb. Here are some data on the camera: lsusb Bus 001 Device 013: ID 040a:05c3 Kodak Co. cat /proc/bus/usb/devices T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 13 Spd=12 MxCh= 0 D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=16 #Cfgs= 1 P: Vendor=040a ProdID=05c3 Rev= 1.00 S: Manufacturer=Eastman Kodak Company S: Product=KODAK EasyShare C813 Zoom Digital Camera S: SerialNumber=C813 161112845 C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=c0 MxPwr= 0mA I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=06(still) Sub=01 Prot=01 Driver=(none) E: Ad=83(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms E: Ad=04(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms E: Ad=85(I) Atr=03(Int.)
