Keyword recognizing is different for some language

In Java (and some other languages), the keyword that's typed suddenly recognized after typing the last character. For example, when typing "class", right after the 2nd "s" appear, the word becomes bold (the caret is right after the 2nd "s", no space). But in Pascal (and so far Ruby), the "class" keyword will be bold only if after the last character a whitespace character is added. Also, specific to Pascal, "self" will be highlighted, but (for instance) "self.Create" won't be. There has to be something wrong with the recognition of the "." Any one understand and can help?
