Kate, Kile and LaTeXHi everyone;
Noob question: I'm considering changing to Solaris 10 (PTC dropped support for Pro/E on Linux), I've been a fairly long time Linux user and would like to know if there are any plans (or perphaps rough estimates) of when above mentioned apps will become available as binaries or 'easy' source compiles. I Googled a little bit for this question, but nothing concise and up-to-date surfaces. Or is it simply a matter of time before all KDE apps become available? For KDE 3.5.8, blastwave is the right source. Compiled with gcc, quite complete. Don't know if kile is included, but kile doesn't do anything really weird and should be a straightforward build. > I Googled a little bit for this question, but nothing concise and > up-to-date surfaces. > > Or is it simply a matter of time before all KDE apps become available? For KDE4, patience is the key, and/or building stuff out of svn and helping with testing - drop by #kde-solaris on freenode after reading the techbase article on kde on solaris. Even if compilation succeed, there are many problems when trying to use it, but perhaps it's due to my login with CDE instead of KDE? I suggest you to use TexMaker (http://www.xm1math.net/texmaker/), best choice in a SunRay environment. It needs a recent release of Qt, be patient to compile it on a slow machine! For Latex, we use TexLive or Tetex from Blastwave. gerard ___________________________________________________ This message is from the kde-solaris mailing list. Re: Kate, Kile and LaTeXfrom my experience, i'm unable to do kile working on solaris 10, with I guess that might be it, Kile works 100% on a Gnome Desktop. Have you tried in under the JDS, seeing that the latter is 'based' on Gnome (if I have my facts correct). I suggest you to use TexMaker (http://www.xm1math.net/texmaker/), best OK, so I can use TexLive, great. Yes, I've used TexMaker before, however, I prefer Kile (functions such as forward search with KDVI is fantastic). Thanks anyway, if I don't succeed with Kile I'll try TexMaker again. wh ___________________________________________________ This message is from the kde-solaris mailing list.
