Kamala's isql manual

Hi all - especially Norman this time -

Kamala Vadlamani is happy to release his isql manual under the PDL, so I can commit it to CVS.

What shall I do? Commit it as fbutil_isql.xml for inclusion in the Commandline Utilities guide? Kamala has written it as a <chapter> and I think he has more or less modelled it after Norman's chapters. A few things have to be added or corrected, but all in all it's pretty complete.

That's fine by me. When I get back from holiday (leaving at 03:00
tonight/tomorrow morning - aaargh - for a two week trip to Sicily again)
I'm happy to try and pick it up from where it is and run with it as the
next exciting chapter in the command line utilities manual.

Unless anyone else wants to write it while I'm away of course - we're
all friends here!

Cheers,
Norman.

OK, I'll commit it this weekend. Have a nice holiday!

Hi all,

The fbutils-isql chapter is in CVS now.

For whoever picks it up (probably Norman himself), these are some points that need attention:

- Spaces around interpunction (on the wrong side / too many / none). I've corrected a number but there are probably some left.
- <screen> elements with lines that are too long for the PDF.
- <userinput> elements that appear screwed up in the PDF. This may be a stylesheet error somewhere. Don't know if it will take long to fix, but the problem can also be circumvented by converting to <screen> or <command>.
- Improper use of <emphasis> and some other elements, which may arouse the suspicion of the DocBook Semantics Police.
- Some of the SHOW examples, while enlightening, are extremely long. They could be truncated after 6-8 lines and followed by ".."
- Some lists (esp. nested lists) could benefit from compact spacing. (BTW, we still have to implement compact spacing in the HTML stylesheet.)
- Some tables need (proportional) width attributes to make them more presentable in the PDF.

The above are some issues I've noticed, but I've not read the entire chapter intently, so there may be more.

Greetings,
Paul Vinkenoog

Hi Paul,

I did have a nice one - thanks - although getting up at 02:15 to catch
my taxi to the airport at 03:00 was a bit unwelcome! However, home again
and I've updated my installation and I'm currently building the full set
of docs.

When I have time - as ever - I'll take a look at what has been done so
far and attempt to fix all the problem areas you have noted in another
posting - as a first start on getting this document finished.

Cheers,
Norman.
