I searched through repositories and found 2 tools : "gfslicer" and "hoz". Does anybody have expierence doing this and therefor can give me advice which tool I should use?
> > In the meantime, since Fedora doesn't ship any k3b addons/plugins, and to
> > simplify packaging/deployment, I believe we(fedora) currently disables
> > the -devel portions of k3b's packaging, which is probably a source for
> > failure here.
> >
> Hi Rex,
>
> It would seem you are correct. I downloaded the K3b source and compiled it,
> then tried compiling the monkey audio plugin again; this time it worked, and
> I am able to burn an APE/cue disk image.
>
> If you could re-enable the -devel portions in a future release, this would
> indeed save some trouble.

Some of the plugins are available from the livna repo in the package
k3b-extras-nonfree. I second the suggestion to add the -devel package
to the Fedora distribution.

Contents of livna k3b-extras-nonfree pachage are:

Hi everyone,

is it possible to change the default settings for
ripping CDs?

I'm referring to the window that pops up after pressing
the "Start ripping" button; it does offer the option
of saving the current settings for later use, but if
possible I'd like to change the default entirely (esp.
the default save directory and encoding settings).

Cheers,

Hi Rex,

It would seem you are correct. I downloaded the K3b source and compiled it, then tried compiling the monkey audio plugin again; this time it worked, and I am able to burn an APE/cue disk image.

If you could re-enable the -devel portions in a future release, this would indeed save some trouble.

Can someone tell me how I quick erase a DVD/RW disc. I can only see the
option for erase CD/RW and if I use that it then wants to format the DVD
which takes forever. This is annoying as I have to keep using Nero
Burning Rom in Windows just to get my discs erased. Its strange how I
can do everything including burn DVD image etc but cant erase a dvd.
> No, as far as I know I am not using the "testing repository". Synoptic
> lists several repositories. At first I assumed they were all mirrors of
> each other. Then I discovered the one I first chose had little in it, and
> the others had much more. So, I activated several for the search option.
>
> I didn't ask this question to the PCLinuxOS group, but should I just be
> using one repository? And if so, which one? A user wants access to all
> possible applications - of course.
>

We're getting off-topic but, yes, one repo should do it (and that's what's
recommended by Texstar and the rest of the developers.) If you want to live
on the bleeding edge, you can manually add the testing repository into the
list. I wouldn't recommend it for a system that you want to keep running
without hiccups, though.

Thanks for the reply.

No, as far as I know I am not using the "testing repository". Synoptic
lists several repositories. At first I assumed they were all mirrors
of each other. Then I discovered the one I first chose had little in
it, and the others had much more. So, I activated several for the
search option.

I didn't ask this question to the PCLinuxOS group, but should I just be
using one repository? And if so, which one? A user wants access to
all possible applications - of course.
Darn, you beat me to the punch <g>. I'm using K3b to copy some audio CDs as I

Hello everyone!

I have a frustrating problem I am trying to solve.

I have been a Linux user for many years and I am currently using
PCLinuxOS since its final version came available last year. One of my
most used applications is k3b, and everything has been working well
until very recently.

I noticed a k3b upgrade was available in the PCLinuxOS repository, so
(innocently enough) I upgraded k3b. Since then, k3b takes
approximately 20 minutes to launch. I have been working with the
PCLinuxOS Support Forum to try to figure this out, so far with no luck.

Using the "top" console command, I determined that k3b was running the
following series of commands:

k3b
cdrdao
wodim
dvd+rw-format
growisofs
genisoimage
normalize
readom
sox
transcode
vcdxbuild
vcdxminfo
vcdxrip
k3b
(repeats)

It takes about 10 minutes to run through the set once, then the set
repeats. This accounts for the 20 minute launch time. After this, k3b
comes up as expected.

Does anyone here have any idea what is happening?

Several suggestions have already been tried with no luck, including:

Doing a full upgrade,
Completely removing k3b and the commands shown above, and reinstalling
the Synaptic package files.

K3b acts the same whether launched from the KDE menu or from a console
window.

All other PCLinuxOS users claim they don't see this problem.
1 - k3b complains as the cd drive has no DMA activated (that's true)

It looks like K3b reads CD info from CDDB and not from MusicBrainz. I
prefer MusicBrainz, as it is usually more precise and has better
Unicode support.

Can i make it work somehow?

Thanks.
