Just bought 03 vx250 Couldnt idle!! --------> VDOs

Hi guys,
This is my frist post here. I just bought a 03 VX250 with 3k miles. The seller said it has been sitting in his garrage for about 1 1/2 year and he never started the engine for long time. I had little of time to test drive it, he had to push real hard to get the engine started coz the battery was death, the bike idle was very rough espacially at low rpm and he said it should be the battery. Today, i replaced new battery with spark plugs and engine tried to fire up but death. I kept trying and didnt work till have to push start then when it gets warmer it can idle but engine will kill if i give it a throttle. Looks like it has problem with low rpm till it revs over 2,000 rpm ( i think ) it will run perfectly. I had to keep the engine run at higher rpm all the time to avoid the stall. Also tried the choke but it didnt make any different ( or it stuck?)

check for vacuum leaks too...air filter clean..

Yeah, I checked on the leaks yesterday and it seemed to be fine, also remove the air filter and try but didnt help. How would your bike feel if you open the chock? Mine feel nothing, not at all.
 Anybody else?????????????

what about the spark plugs? what do they look like? when i choke the rpms increase.. your idle is fine,,its when you roll on the throttle that you are not getting a response..in mine the idle and roll on are the same circuit..there is a direct fuel feed to the throat either fore or aft of the butterfly valve. when you open the throttle the butterfly opens,,increasing air,which draws more fuel which should increase rpms...the fuel system has to breathe just the right amount..youve checked vacuum leaks in all the obvious places,,does your carb have a vent on top?  if that is clogged by insect nesting material it could affect operation.  also emmission control device,,it would have a valve and possibly an air filter that could be affected by sitting..
fuel tank vent may sound redundant but if you start with the simple and move to the complex youll spend less money...gasoline can turn to varnish in a matter of months,,,your carb may need cleaning..the passages are so tiny that the use of the smallest guitar string is necessary to clear them...high quality fuel,,lowest octane will perform best....good luck keep in touch let us know how she responds,,yg

I just run some seafoam but didnt have much time to test it this morrning. Im going to try cleaning carb tomorrow, do you have any instruction how to take it off? Do i need to replace any gasket if carb is taken off? I ran the bike with air filter removed yesterday but i didnt make anything different. Also concern about it have have something wrong with choke since it didnt make and rpm increase if it is opened. Ive been working on 2 stroke engine for many years but this is just something new for me. I thought i was going to spend a good time riding this bike on 4th July but seems like i have to get my hand dirty insted. :(

If it runs but won't idle it is most likely dirty carbs. Especially since it has been sitting. Clean the idle jet (pilot jet) and check it well, as this one is for idling. Clean the main jet. Check that the idle jet screw is set right as well.
