Altho' our trip (June 14th -June 16th, 2008) to Winthrop, Washington
pales in comparison to HMR's mountain adventure, we had a pretty good
time. Three of us: Kim/TransAlp, Bill/KLR650, and Me/Ennie, left Port
Angeles,Wa. around 9:30 AM Saturday the 14th. We intended to join up
with Scot on his Beemer near Anacortes,Wa. The round trip covered 532
miles with the highest pass cresting about 5,400'. Of course we camped
in the woods, near a creek, and we couldn't pass up the chance to climb
the switchbacks up Sauk Mtn..
Ennie ate dust which she earnestly collected on her oil drenched parts
(thank you Mr. Head Gasket), until she gasped and thankfully stalled
when we made the turn into the snow. She smoked for awhile (the sex
musta' been good!) Then enjoyed a cool, refreshing downhill ride eating
dust while trying to run over the pig of a Beemer. The Beemer, BTW, had
the only breakdown of the trip. The rear drive bearing went "Kaput" in
Anacortes. Ten hours and $600 later Scot caught up to us at the first
campsite.
Ennie performed admirably. She took the passes with aplomb, albeit
slowly, cresting at 45 mph. But down the other side!! Woo-woo, 75 mph!
(tho' not held for very long:O)
The last leg, from Anacortes to Port Angeles, was beseiged with 30+
headwinds and the thumper used a wee bit of oil. Only a little more
than 1/4" oil was showing on the dipstick upon return home but a
fraction more appeared by morning.
The girl cleans up real good.
