Java exception starting Netbeans

I started getting an exception in java.exe trying to start Netbeans today. It says “unknown software exception 0xc00000409 … at location 28f8e4eb”. The exception occurs after a couple of minutes with the usual Netbeans splash screen displayed.

I’m running on XP SP2

I have been using 6.0, but after getting this error I tried installing the latest 6.1, but also got the same error (during the installation). I also tried updating my JDK from 1.6.0_05 to 1.6.0_06. Still get the exception. I also tried deleting the C:\Documents and Settings\user\.netbeans\6.0 directory.

Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?
