how to handle session expiration?

I am trying to figure out how to handle session timeout. When it happens, it looks like the request gets lost (I use authenticated sessions) and web interface simply doesn't react to user clicks anymore.
What is the suggested pattern?

maven problem

The POM published today in the maven2 java.net repository makes
reference to the artifactId 'jsf-extensions-master' which appears to not
be published causing the following error in my project that depends on
Woodstock:

Reason: Cannot find parent:

I never got Woodstock components working fine with Dynafaces. I'll wait JSF 2.0 to ajaxify my applications.

Unfortunately I haven't been too successful with ajaxTransactions
either. The first time I select a value in the dropdown it works
perfectly, but the second time it won't. In the Firefox error console I
get the following error with the second selection:

I also got the impression that it's re-rendering the entire page, not
jusy the table. In fact when I tried using sitemesh, the JSF page is
rerendered over the sitemesh template. However the above error is
generated even with sitemesh disabled.

I don't suppose it has anything to do with the name
"handleDescriptionNachChange" does it? The function in your JS does not
have "Nach" in the name.

How to refresh the execute component with fireAjaxTransaction

I use DynaFaces.fireAjaxTransaction to update fields based on other input field values. This is invoked using onBlur() and a valueChangeListener Java method is executed.

However, I can't update the changed field itself!
This is what I tried:

I've never got those zones working.
Try using DynaFaces.fireAjaxTransaction(). I've been more lucky with that.

Dynafaces in a table

I'm trying to use dynamic faces to update components in a table.

The table contains a dropdown list, and I'm trying to update another component on the same row based on the selected value in the dropdown. However it seems the events are not being invoked at all. No JS error messages appear.

I'm using NB 6.1 with VWP / Dynafaces

Here's the JSP code. The Java class is pretty empty so far - the valueChanged method doesn't get invoked.

Can anyone help?

Problem with "Ajax Zone" in Dynamic Faces

I work at NetBeans 6.1 and use in web project components Dynamic Faces.

The problem is that if, in the project using Java EE 5, the "Ajax Zone" is not working. When doing a project with J2EE 1.4 whereas "Ajax Zone" works. Why?

jsf-extensions mail list and Maven

Hello,

I see frequent references to the users@jsf-extensions mailing list on
the Woodstock mail list. However, the 'new' JSF Extensions site on
java.net does not make mention of this list instead mentioning that the
best place for support is the Java forums. Is this email list still
active? If so why is it not advertised on the JSF Extensions site?

Also I am curious as to the status of the jsf-extension jars in the
java.net Maven repository which do not seem to be present. When I refer
to the Woodstock artifacts using Maven I get missing artifact errors for
the JSF Extension jars. Is there another repository I don't know about?

Hi,
I couldn't find this addressed anywhere in the faq or the mailinglist, so here goes:
I think dynafaces is really cool, but I wonder if opening JSF up to javascript in that way doesn't open up a huge security hole in your app. In particular the dispatching of JSF events using javascript, wouldn't that allow, for example, a client to bypass the "process validations" phase and inject unsafe values into the model?

how does postReplace attribute for AjaxTransaction work?

In my code, the postreplace function has this signature:

function checkWrongFields(element, markup, closure)

but when it gets called, element is always null.
I got this example from the CurrencyTrader sample in Netbeans, the sample itself is built on top of "old" components (<ui:> instead of <webuijsf:>) so I don't know it it's my mistake or a technology issue.

DynamicFaces - Handling a DynaFaces Transaction issued from a footer

Attached is a zip project of a JSF demo.

My goal is to effectively use the JSF 1.2 Reference Implementation, Facelets (latest version), DynaFaces, with markup written almost exclusively in HTML.

I wanted to demonstration internationalization, AJAX, the expression language, validation, but...well...quite didn't get there. You'll see.

According to the people that I have spoken with, Facelets and DynaFaces, or something very similar, will be incorporated into the JSF 2.0 specification.

I consider this great news, because Facelets allows for the HTML templating that people expect from Tapestry and Wicket. And DynaFaces provides
a toolkit to Ajax Enable plain ordinary JSF components.

If DynaFaces were part of the 2.0 Specification, component developers could concentrate on writing plain ordinary JSF components, and add AJAX functionality in a standardized manner, that would allow products such as IceFaces, RichFaces, (name JSF Ajax Framework here) to interoperate.

Since 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 JSF Specifications did not address AJAX functionality directly, and vendors built their own AJAX solutions that did not interoperate.

My first version of this demo used had multiple forms in it, and this revealed a bug within the Facelets/DynaFaces combination in which ~facelets.VIEW_STATE~ was rendered in the HTML. This also affected the stability of the JSF application.

Sun provided me with a fix in DynaFaces that would make the problem go away. Yes, ~facelets.VIEW_STATE~ no longer appeared, but the AJAX response now had stacktraces in them, so it seemed as though something else was wrong.

I found a workaround. Just use one FORM (and wait for DynaFaces to mature and address this problem). Granted, this will make validation phase more difficult on complex pages.

Then I ran into another problem, which was part of our UI Requirements.

In my demo application, if you select a Sprocket:0, or any Sprocket for that matter, and then click the Add Snap Crackle Pop button, inputs will dynamically appear in a the footer of a dataGrid.

I cannot get my inputs, and actionListener for the "saveSnapCracklePop" button to be handled as an AJAX transaction on the dataGrid footer.

Am I doing something wrong? or is there another issue with DynaFaces?

On a side note, I am loosing the battle to push for the adoption of JSF in our next UI Web Application. We have Tapestry experienced developers who are convinced that Wicket is the right way to go.

I want to choose the technology that is best for the team though. I prefer JSF because of my previous experiences, and its wide industry support.

On another note, wouldn't it be nice if there was a domain specific language for writing JSF components? Facelets almost achieves this, but still forces developers to put code in a ManagedBean that truly belongs in a UIComponent. It must become easy to develope UIComponents through composition, that contain the logic that you would expect from a component encapsulated.

JSF dropdown components problem

I have two dropdown components. I need to set values in several other components depending on the values selected in two dropdowns. When a value is selected in the first dropdown, the second dropdown is populated and upon selecting a value in the second dropdown the values in the other conponents should be changed. But, when there is only one value in a dropdown change event does not occur. How can I solve this problem please?

Woodstock does not use Shale. (We don't need it to load JavaScript, so there is no need for us to create another dependency.) We distribute the following JSF Extensions jars with Woodstock:

    jsf-extensions-common-0.1.jar
    jsf-extensions-dynamic-faces-0.1.jar

However, we do not distribute the Shale jar:

    shale-remoting-1.1.0-swdp-b.jar

If you're using the <jsf:scripts> tag of JSF Extensions, the Shale jar is required to load DynamicFaces. However, upgrading Shale is more of a question for the users@... alias.

Navigation after a ServletFilter

Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how to approach this problem in JSF.

I have an application, guarded with a ServletFilter (using NTLM authentication with jCIFS) that's checking for an authentication token in the session. If the token is absent, the browser pops up a login box and lets the user enter credentials.

At this point the filter allows the request to proceed to the requested URL (/index.jsp) that forwards to the first jsf page in the application. The trouble is that I can potentially have more than one 'first' or 'entry' page... and this is decided by the user's role.

I want to be able to intercept the request after the Authentication Filter and depending on the user's role (retrieved in their credentials) I want to forward them to one of two jsf pages. For example, one page for admins, and a different page for non-admins.

I doubt if I want to handle this with another filter... since filters should really call the next chained filter on the stack. Additionally, I may want to add more filters in the chain at some point in time.

As I write this, I can envision one way of doing this. Stuff an attribute in the session and have the index.jsp page behave as the navigation controller... i.e. instead of having the standard <jsp:forward page="/pages/home.jsf" />, I could have something like <jsp:forward page="/pages/${an_attribute_in_the_request}.jsf" />.

Is this doable with an Action/ActionListener mechanism(or any other event mechanism) of some sort? Is there any other JSF construct that can help me do this? It needs to be called before the JSF navigation handler has already dispatched the request to the entry page specified in the web.xml.

Showing Data from 2 tables in JSF

I am developing a project in JSF and JPA

I have one table called employees with column
Name,Job_code,Dept_code
For employee table I have a entity

I have another table called ListOfValues with column
Prefix,Lov_code and Lov_desc
Prefix can be JOB(for job) and DEP(for department)

I want to display these columns
Name
Job desc(=lov_desc, comes from ListOfValues for prefix-JOB and lov_code=job_code)
dept_desc(=lov_desc, comes from ListOfValues for prefix-DEPand lov_code=dept_code)

I have got a session bean which does query(em.createquery(....)) and shows data using JSF datatable. It shows Name,Job_code,Dept_code fine. now I want to get job_desc and dept_desc in same table

Can anyone please tell me how to do it. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks...

Never mind I think I have found my problem. I needed to specify the
LIFECYCLE_ID as PARTIAL in my web.xml:

problem with Facelets

I am trying to get AJAX validation calls to work using jsf-extensions
0.1 rc5, Woodstock 4.2, and Facelets 1.1.13. I have seen some recent

error appears in the JavaScript console for com_sun_faces_ajax-max.js

Custom converter problem using dynafaces

Hi, i'm new in dynafaces and ajax and i have the next problem.
I have the next code

Then the field2 is not refresh anymore when the field1 value is changed. If the page is refresh the values of the fields are ok and the converter works propertly.

Anyone has any idea?

No Renderer found for component

Hi,

I have a simple custom jsf component that does not have a specific renderer, e.g. getRenderType looks like this:

public class PrintTag extends HtmlComponentTagBase {

...

public String getRendererType() {
return null;
}

...

}

The result of this is that UIComponentBase runs this line:

if (renderer == null) {
getFacesContext().getExternalContext().log("No Renderer found for component " + getClientId(context) + " (component-family=" + getFamily() + ", renderer-type=" + rendererType + ")");
}

This fills up my log. Can anybody help me to get rid of this logging, either in someway providing a default renderer or if it is possible to configure JSF to not log this.

JSF and SSI ( .shtml )

Hello,
We have been trying to use JSF as a Server Side Include (SSI - .shtml ). We have successfully used jsp pages for SSI in the past.
The issue is that the jsf adds an extra set of HTML/HEAD tags to the page ( breaking the page ).
Is there a way to prevent our container from generating these extra tags when rendering the jsf?
Can anyone point me to where in the source these HTML/HEAD tags get inserted?

Roadmap of DynaFaces

I like DynaFaces as it integrates well with JSF lifecycle. But lack of support (tried RC5) and non-final release is making progress difficult.

What is Roadmap of DynaFaces ?

When is final release due ?

I see in forum that some users have successfully used Dynamic Faces with Facelets. Please do advise how to make the two work.

Ajax4jsf is popular. How is the performance of 'ajax4jsf' ? Which is the best suited & stable AJAX framework/library for JSF ?

ajaxZone: inspectElement problem

Hello,
I am trying to use an ajaxZone element around some components that include textfields and a button.
I do not want the textfields to be ajaxified.
So I tried using the inspectElement attribute and provided the inspectElement method (same as in jsf extensions tutorial with a bit of modification)
However it seems that the method I provided is not being called and the default behavior of ajaxZone (ajaxifying inputs, buttons and options) is taking place. Hence everytime I click on the textfield an ajax request is being generated.
Below is my code snippet (Note: I am also using woodstock components in this example).
