Hello,

My old desktop stopped working and i am getting a new one. but i some question before i buy. will JAI work with 64 bits AMD processor? This is the system.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4030695&body=MAIN#detailspecs

I will be using windows xp 64 bits pros edition. I look at the installation for windows from this site, and i don't see a special instruction for installing 32 bit or 64 bits for windows. I do see a special installation instruction for 32 bit or 64 bits for linux and solaris, but not for Windows.

thanks

Francis

JAI will work, but without native acceleration for now.

you mean native acceleration as in mediaLab? I don't use that. Do i need to have a native acceleration? This is what i use, first, i downloaded these three
  • jai-1_1_3-lib-windows-i586.exe
  • jai-1_1_3-lib-windows-i586-jre.exe
  • jai-1_1_3-lib-windows-i586-jdk.exe
and i installed it on my desktop and i used them. That's all. Does one of the three above includes native acceleration?

Yup.

Up to you.  Not required.

I think so.  But the native libraries work only on 32-bit Windows.
If you don't need the native acceleration, you can download this one
from https://jai.dev.java.net/binary-builds.html

1.1.3
   ...
Java (no native acceleration)
          o jai-1_1_3-lib.zip

ok i see. Thanks so much for your help jxc. I need a native acceleration then because i need to have my image detection in real time like video streaming speed. it is like 30 frames a second, but after the deinterlacing it becomes 60 images per seconds. If one of these three that i have installed on my old computer has a native acceleration then i need it. May be somebody or brian can verify this for me. does any of the three include native acceleration?

 - jai-1_1_3-lib-windows-i586.exe
 - jai-1_1_3-lib-windows-i586-jre.exe
 - jai-1_1_3-lib-windows-i586-jdk.exe

I thought we need to specify something like mediaLab in the command line to use the native acceleration package.

thanks

Francis

I am pretty sure that they include the native libraries.  And by default the native
acceleration is used.

You can follow the instructions on this page to disable the native libraries:
http://download.java.net/media/jai/builds/release/1_1_3/INSTALL.html#disableMediaLib
and see how your application goes.
