Issues with the Insteon plm and MisterhouseHi list. I've been using misterhouse now for a few months on and off,
and had been planning on automating my apartment as soon as I move in (new college student.) I've got the 2412s Insteon plm as my interface and am running misterhouse from svn on Gentoo latest. This setup has been working for several months however I have recently been getting this in my log and none of my commands appear to be going through: 07/18/08 10:51:06 PM [Insteon_PLM] WARN: No acknowledgement from PLM to last command requires forced abort of current command. This may reflect a problem with your environment. A bit of googling lead me to a list post where it was suggested to issue the following command to test the plm: rs232 -d /dev/ttyS0 -b 19200 -s "\h02 62 FF FF FF 0F 11 FF" --hex --verbose -r9 --wait .4 This did indeed return something -- although it didn't specify in the message what I should be looking for as output: /dev/ttyS0 19200 8n1 +dtr -rts -cts -dsr send <hex>(2)(62)(ff)(ff)(ff)(f)(11)(ff) wait 0.400000 seconds read 9 characters 3 3 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 More info on my setup: I've got the plm plugged into a UPS (I know, it's supposed to be a no no, however it's plugged into the surge protector side of the cheap belkin UPS and this hasn't caused me problems in the past.) -- Just didn't want an open line from the mains to the rs232 port as I live in Florida and afternoon thunderstorms are all too common. I'd appreciate any help with this you're willing to provide. Thank you for your time, Christopher ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ ________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe from this list, go to: http://sourceforge.net/mail/?group_id=1365 |

I assume that--for the purpose of proper testing--you have fully taken your UPS out of commission (i.e., unplugged it) and placed the PLM and the target device on the same circuit. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ ________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe from this list, go to: http://sourceforge.net/mail/?group_id=1365 |

Re: Issues with the Insteon plm and MisterhouseIs there some sort of diagnostic I can run on the plm itself before
buying another? I.E. what text would a functional plm return with that rs232 command. Re: Issues with the Insteon plm and MisterhouseHi Christopher
Here's my results using S-Jinn and turning off and on a Switchlinc from the console. root@Misterhouse:/# rs232 -d /dev/ttyUSB2 -b 19200 -s "\h02 62 05 CA FE 0F 13\n" --hex --verbose -r9 --wait .4 /dev/ttyUSB2 19200 8n1 +dtr -rts -cts -dsr send <hex>(2)(62)(5)(ca)(fe)(f)(13)<lf> wait 0.400000 seconds read 9 characters 78 1c fc b7 d4 9d bc bf d0 root@Misterhouse:/# rs232 -d /dev/ttyUSB2 -b 19200 -s "\h02 62 05 CA FE 0F 11 FF" --hex --verbose -r9 --wait .4 /dev/ttyUSB2 19200 8n1 +dtr -rts -cts -dsr send <hex>(2)(62)(5)(ca)(fe)(f)(11)(ff) wait 0.400000 seconds read 9 characters 78 ec fb b7 84 75 9c bf 80 The "05 CA FE" in the command is the Switchlinc device code. Re: Issues with the Insteon plm and MisterhouseGarry,
I probably should have been more precise. My current setup is x10 only -- I bought the Insteom plm in the first case so that I could expand if I wanted to. Can you feed me something that'll test with x10? Thanks much, Christopher ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ ________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe from this list, go to: http://sourceforge.net/mail/?group_id=1365 |
