Is Port Audio right for me?

I am in need of a application that will take input from the Microphone
and Line Out of the machine and output them to a wav file when the a
certain sound is "heard" on the Line Out.

Specifically - I have an IP phone which will ring when a call comes
in. I want an application that will listen for the ring- start
recording both the input and output during the call and have the user
stop the recording when the call is finished.

1) Is there anything out there like this already?
2) Can this be done in PortAudio?
If not - what is the best direction for this?

Jason

Jason,

PortAudio works as a bridge between your audio devices and your application,
giving you access to audio input and output on a variety of platforms. Once
you have received the audio you can process it in any way you like; try to
see if you are receiving a known signal, pass it straight on to the output
(which can be a file or another audio device) or whatever you want to do.
PortAudio is perfect for VoIP applications, but knows nothing about the
actual audio signals that are going in and out. So I'd say that the answer
is yes, PortAudio would suit your needs.

Anybody knows if there are a max number of simultaneous output streams to
open?

In other words.. Can I open, for example, 20+ output streams, without a loss
of performance?
