I just installed the latest Octave (3.0.1) for Windows, and ran into an error called a segmentation violation when trying to start the program after setup. I was just wondering you have had any suggestions. Thanks,
Andrew

This kind of problem used to happen when the default graphics
backend is JHandles (selected at installation), and the java version
is too low (usually 1.4.x). If this the case, then upgrade your java.

If it is not the case, then could you tell us if you see the welcome
the message of octave? Do you use the graphical front-end?
If yes, does it also happen when you start octave in console mode?

Michael.

Hello

Perhaps this is well known trouble.

Have you select jhandle as a default graphic backend?

If so, please install the java from sun java page.

http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Selecting gnuplot as a graphic backend makes Sun java  not required.
If you would like to use gnuplot, please uninstall octave and re-install octave and select gnuplot
as graphic backend.

Regards

Tatsuro
