Inserting list items

Hi all,

If I want to insert a new bullet item after an existing one, I can place
my cursor at the end of that item and hit return, which opens up a new
bullet item for me.

But what's the easiest way to insert a new bullet item at the beginning
of a list?  I've tried several obvious approaches, but all of them
require fussing with indentation levels or combining two separate
bulleted list, etc., and I'm looking for something more direct.

Thanks,

Todd Wilson

Go to the top of the list and type - top bullet

ie.  you have a list like this:

 o list 2
 o list 3
 o list 4

go to the top and type - list 1

- list 1 <enter>
o list 2
o list 3
o list 4

and then it'll become a new item

Actually, what you suggest creates the following:

o list 1
o <cursor here>
o list 2
o list 3
o list 4

I then have to hit the delete key twice to remove the extra bullet item
(that's what I meant in my message about "combining two separate
bulleted lists"). That's not too bad, but it would be nice if there was
a still more direct way -- for example, placing the cursor either right
before or right after the first bullet symbol and hitting return (or
shift-return, control-return, etc.).

That makes sense, I think if you are to the right of the bullet, but
left of the text and hit enter, it should move that bullet down and make
a new one above it.

Try putting the cursor on the line before the start of the list and
hitting <Alt> + <Right>.

That looks like the best solution as it stands now.  Thanks!
