Well it would have to have some autechre, and as far as aphex is concerned maybe sneeking in something from either the rdj album or come to daddy would make more sense, you might also add something like the theme from earnest borgnine from squarepusher

something from Isan, Freescha, Casino vs Japan,Ochre, Bauri, E*Vax, Phonem,
Arovane, Funckarma, Gescom, Lexaunculpt, Lusine, Bitstream... someone said
the obvious ones... that is what comes to mind off the top of my head, that
i would want to put on an idm tribute mix at least...

boards of canada vs. autechre in a cage match to see who can put out an
album that annoys more of their fans? BOC whining that no one respects them
as a rock band, and Autechre doesn't even show up because their Max patches
did the album for them while they ate sandwiches and anyway they had a
couple of jam sessions that would make a great double disc set.

Joshua, I agree with u about Autechre´s annoying glitchy last album, but
BOC´s Campfire, although it has a more poppy vibe, has divine beauty!!!

And about the tribute, I luv Dillinger Escape Plan (feat. Mike Patton)´s
version of "Come to Daddy"!!
It´s amazing what that band did.

I actually made a 2-disc IDM compilation that walked people through
the "beginning" of IDM through the most recent stuff, in chronological
order.

Tracklisting:
Disc 1:
1) AFX - Analogue Bubblebath
2) Caustic Window - Popcorn
3) Autechre - Bike
4) u-Ziq - Twangle Frent
5) Kinesthesia - Xodi
6) Orbital - The Tranquilizer
7) Cylob - Diof
8) Squarepusher - A Journey To Reedham
9) Bochum Welt - Untitled (A track from Desktop Robotics, I forget which)
10) Autechre - Cichli
11) Boards of Canada - Telephasic Workshop
12) Funkstorung - Voi.gstört (Nonrepetetive Version)
13) Bola - Forcasa 3

Disc 2:
1) Arovane - Theme
2) Styrofoam - Future Debt Collector
3) Bauri - Embryo
4) Solvent - A Panel of Experts
5) Telefon Tel Aviv - Fahrenheit Fair Enough
6) Proem - 001
7) Digitonal - Come And Play
8) Enduser - Red Meth Rmx
9) Herrmann & Kleine - Her Tune
10) Abfahrt Hinwil - Tech7
11) Team Shadetek - Duals
12) Four Tet - My Angel Rocks Back and Forth
13) Alias - Chew The Fat
14) Opiate - Amstel
15) B. Fleischmann - Pass By

This takes you to 2003, when I made the comp.

(Seattle) MATMOS--tonight @ The Triple Door

For those of you that haven't been to the Triple Door, I need not tell you
about the quality of experience you encounter when attending a show there. For
those unfamiliar with the venue, here are a few tips for enjoying the show:

1) Get there early because it's first come first serve on seating. I
recommend getting there by 7:30 (show starts at 8pm)
2) If you'd like to have a booth, connect with friends and reserve a booth
together (booths offer the best sound / visual quality)
3) Bring your appetite because they serve excellent food. A menu can be
downloaded here: http://www.thetripledoor.net/menu.aspx

Last time Matmos performed at the Triple Door, it sold out and it was one of
the most memorable shows of the year for pretty much everyone I spoke with who
was in attendance. Their ability to combine humor and technology into a highly
entertaining performance is extraordinary. If you're a fan of leading edge
a/v technology and live music I can guarantee you'll enjoy tonight's
performance, regardless of whether or not your familiar with Matmos' music,
which is incredibly eclectic.

I am a little apprehensive about even suggesting this, but, I would
certainly enjoy a "tribute to/cannons of IDM" mix compiled by the IDM forum
members.  Something that we could produce as a collective.  Each interested
member would suggest one track only and we'll leave it up to Adam Young, who
brought this topic up (or any "senior member" volunteer if Adam doesn't want
to), to edit the tracks down to 80 minutes.  In the interest of not turning
the board into an Inbox nightmare, we'll take one day (today) to figure out
who will volunteer to make the mix and one day (tomorrow) to suggest
tracks.  If, by tomorrow, we can't get it together, everyone abandon ship.

Would the mix be collected in a .zip file to distribute to members, or just
a list so we can gather the tracks ourselves? I remember reading something
about how blatant file sharing isnt allowed here. (or filesharing at all for
that matter).

I really like the idea though, it would be a great mix for newcomers and
veterans alike to the genre. I also like Shane's approach, creating a
'history of' mix in chronological order from the beginning to the present. I
would really like to see something like that.

As a newcomer who's joined just as all this has kicked off I'll offer
my thoughts:

First up, brilliant idea.

A mix, distributed as a single archived mp3 with a helpful
tracklisting/cue sheet supplied would surely be the best way to go
about this. Distributing the individual mp3's is too close to piracy
for my liking, and just a list is well ... nowhere near as much fun.

Ok guys, I'm done. Looking forward to the outcome.

Oh, and hi :)

I sort of left that part out of the suggestion because I wasn't sure how
strict we are on self-policing our filesharing.  I was hoping that could be
figured out after all the work was done. After the list is made, if one of
our DJ's  were to mix it down and post it, is that still blatant filesharing
or does that fall under that tricky "Right to tonearms" DJ amendment?  And
yes, chronological order would be nice, but I figured we'd leave that up to
the editor to decide, so as not to complicate things too much between us all
and because chronology does not always a good mixtape make...  So, is that a
nomination for Shane as editor?

I can throw together a mix of the tracks and host the resulting MP3.

I've begun to create one in Ableton but it's not in chronological
order. When I started, I initially wanted to have a lot of variety and
cater it to people who've never heard any electronic music before. I
want to include a lot of classics as well as newer artists like
Sebastian and Evol Intent and even a few rare tracks. If I did a lot
of overlapping and didn't include the entire songs, would it be ok to
post a download
link when it's finished? I can host it myself.

Maybe we can start a poll and the songs with the most votes will be
included in the mix?

Someone else can work on a mix that would be in chronological order or
Shane can share the mix he did if he doesn't mind.

This thread died out before it really started, didn't it?!  This is a list
strictly what i'd call IDM.  Not really any dubstep, downtempo, acoustic
instruments, vocals, or techno beats (though i appreciate & listen to them).
Mostly electronic sounds to really pay tribute to the IDM aspect as
requested.  I tried to stay away from remixes, too.

Either way, i'd include this :

Mouse On Mars - Schnick Schnack Meltmade
Plaid - New Family
Squarepusher - Venus No. 17
Boards Of Canada - Amo Bishop Roden
Orbital - Sad But True
09 - Seven Milliseconds
Sun Electric - Stimpak
Kettel - Mauerbrecher
Gimmik - Crak
Bochum Welt - Feelings On A Screen
Jega - Geometry
Caustic Window - On The Romance Tip
Orb - Promis
FSOL - Yage
Proem - Skylup
Abfahrt Hinwil - Triology
L'usine - Deadend
Aphex Twin - Fingerbib
Endorphins - Epilogue
Tim Tetlow - Polyphilo #2
Arovane - Tabl F
Funckarma - Llelectr
MD - 5n9
Blamstrain - untitled (Mesak remix)
The Buddy System - None Taken
Gescom - Go Sumo
Mr. Projectile - Deep Water
Chris Clark - Rob Lee
Boy Robot - Live In Vanilla
Casino Versus Japan - Summer Clip
Loden - A Better Landing
ML - Sneakerwave
Christ. - Alter Boy
Apparat - Forward/Backward
Spark - Oranges
Greenbank - Fluted
Bitstream - Crab Nebula
Autechre - Cichli

I guess it would have to be a double-CD   :) or :(  ?

That's a good list, lots I've personally heard of but haven't heard and I
feel it represents this essence of "IDM" very well.
