IdeasHi,
I don't usually post to this list as UE design is not my strong point. However I had a few ideas I wanted to put on paper. 1) Portlets arranged on grid. A publish time parameter to set the Portlet width (narrow, normal, wide). Portlets should then snap to grid. Therefore column boundaries would be fluid. You could get the effect of having columns within columns or content that spans columns. 2) Related content. When I'm using my crossword Portlet, I always want the Dictionary Portlet! (perhaps they should always be adjacent too). 3) Portlet refresh AJAX style. I'm not sure if the Portlet or the Portal should care about this. The concept of a WebTop with day long portal sessions. My Calendar and EMail summary portlet should refresh without interaction. I guess this has already been done in places, but a common approach community wide would be good. 4) Really Detachable Portlets. Could the Portlets be detached into a Screenlet? Perhaps some kind of WebStart Remote Portlet container, attached to the Portal session. Perhaps this could activate by dragging off the edge of the browser? Re: IdeasThey're all good ideas.
One in particular you'd like to work on first? Re: IdeasAnthony,
Thanks for chiming in. You hit on several ideas that I have been chewing on as well. #1 is something that I have pseudo-implemented in a custom version of uP2.x and would like to accomplish more completely in a release of uP3.x. Perhaps we could start a wiki page to detail some of the user scenarios and desired behavior of a grid layout with sized columns?
