This week's pictures were all taken on Tuesday and Wednesday in
Brighton and in London, with my new (almost) pocketable outfit, the
Olympus E420 with the 25mm pancake lens.

Anyway, the weather was lousy, our flight home was delayed by more
than 2 hours, but it was still a great trip. Selected snippets are here:

And as always, comments and critique are welcome and appreciated.

I suppose I should vote for evidence of miserable weather, but I really like
the composition and balance of Alternate 2.

This week's winner is Alt. 11.  It's not night time but it immediately
transported me to Edward Hopper's "Nighthawks"

Thanks, Nathan.  I enjoyed the shots of the pier and the waves.

I shall be in the Netherlands on Friday, staying in Arnhem that night
and collecting some marchers from Nijmegen on Saturday.  Next week i
shall be touring the D-Day beaches; at some stage I should be able to
collect enough shots to make a collection for showing.

Hey, Chris, sounds like you're retracing the steps chronicled in "A
Bridge Too Far." If you get a chance, I'd like to see some shots of
those bridges today, especially the one in Arnhem.

Thanx!

I'll sort that out, Bob, but I think that you should know that we
still haven't taken the bl**dy thing! :-)

I'll be entirely on my own for the evening and I plan to sit in sight
of the bridge with a large, cold Dutch beer and a cigar,
contemplating ... well loads of things ...

Hey, Chris. We're leaving for France tomorrow, we'll be spending the
time in Picardie and Somme, poking about in the areas where my
grandfather and his brother fought in the Great War. If possible I'd
like to take in a couple of further flung locations (Ypres, Ploegsteert,
Arras) where they also fought.

One fortnight isn't going to be enough. Just never got round to it before...

Have a good trip. My father-in-law was over for the 50th celebrations at
Nijmegen and Arnhem. Went with a Caravan Club rally.

Have fun, Donald.  I'll be on the beaches.

I wish that I could have my father and grandfather with me, but both
are dead.  Both were pilots, in WWII and WWI respectively, so they
didn't get muddy, but it would have been so interesting to talk things
through with them.

Lost opportunities can make you sad, eh?

I shall be on duty with around 20 undergrads; it's part of their
training as members of the University of London Air Squadron (www.ulasonline.org.uk
) and I have to keep them in order, ensure that they all get a
suitable amount of eddicashun and don't get too drunk too often ...

... oh, and bring them back to the UK safely.

I might just be knackered after a week of it, especially as I am the
main driver!
