How to make Timeline not conflict with jQuery?

For some reason Timeline messes up some jQuery modal stuff our designers built.

I realize that jQuery has a noconflict mode, but our designers are used to using the jQuery "$" shortcut. Is there a noconflict mode for Timeline? Has anyone run into this problem before?

Thanks!

AFAICT, timeline includes SimileAjax, which itself has jQuery1.2.1 in it.

Not precisely sure what you want, do you want jquery, or do you have
your own non-jquery stuff using $? Or do you want a different version
of jquery?

We have our own jQuery at the latest version. Perhaps we should excise jQuery from Timeline and tell it where to find our Query?

Which version of Timeline are you using? 1.0? or 2.0 here

I guess we are using Timeline 1.0. There is no "2.0" in the api path. Are there any examples that use 2.0? What are the advantages?

The latest stable version is 1.2 according to the website, is this not the case now? Should I download the "Trunk" version instead? Is that 2.0 and is it stable? Will I have any issues upgrading my 1.2 version to 2.0? Are there a lot of changes/improvements between 1.2 and 2.0? Why do hotdogs come in tins of 8 but rolls come in packets of 10?

Sorry for all the questions but I suspect the problem I am having with trying to use JQuery-UI is due to the version of JQuery that somes with Timeline 1.2

BTW, it's a great app (keep up the good work David!) and I hope to have a website that makes very good use of it up and running for testing very soon now, I'll post the link if anyone is interested in some beta testing.

Exhibit 2.0 actually uses Timeline 2.0.

I have to look back at my SVN commit logs to see what I've improved
exactly, but here are a few things:
- ability to programmatically scroll a band and pop up a bubble for a
particular event given its ID
- slightly better re-factored code for overriding styles and behaviors
- new layout of events that may be better in some cases, e.g.,
    http://people.csail.mit.edu/dfhuynh/misc/detailed-layout/jfk.html

Hi Ritchie,

Timeline 1.2 does not include SimileAjax, which means it does not
include JQuery. (So I don't know why you are seeing conflicts with your
JQuery version.)

Timeline 2.0 includes SimileAjax 2.0, which includes JQuery 1.2.1.
Timeline 2.0 is available at
    http://static.simile.mit.edu/timeline/api-2.0/timeline-api.js
and checked into SVN at
    http://simile.mit.edu/repository/timeline/trunk/

Exhibit 2.0 uses Timeline 2.0, which allows for the "coordinator"
feature where, for example, in
    http://simile.mit.edu/exhibit/examples/presidents/presidents-2.html
clicking on a marker on the map would pop up a bubble for the
corresponding event on the timeline, and vice versa.

Hope that helps! Let us know if you get it to work.

David,

So can you think of any reason why Timeline 1.0 might interfere with
jQuery such that we have to use jQuery in noConflict mode? Thanks.

Todd,

I really don't know. Is there a URL where I can observe this conflict?
