Peter,

Yup, that was political.  You raised expectations and said nothing!

Peter Thorn's real attention-getter "political"

Peter,

Send to John Lock and get to post on his site with a URL posted to the list.  Or look up the source of your information and post a direct URL.

Must be somewhat interesting if a non political guy wanted to post something?  Now racing sailboats has gotten political?  Not just winning races?

Bob,
Is the sail permanently attached to the top and bottom of an aluminum
tube? If so, that is the original GBI furler designed and
manufactured by General Boats. They are bullet proof and never jam as
long as you keep some tension on the furling line as you pull out the
sail. The only problem we ever had with ours was the tape at the top
of the sail which served as the attachment point broke and the sail
started sliding down the slot. Because the sail was permanently
attached, we had to lower the mast to fix it but it was an easy fix.

Mary Lou, I must have the GBI furler.  My problem is that the drum used to always ride above the (i believe it is called the tang fitting) on the headstay (you know the stainless fitting that the wire is swaged into.  When trying to release the headstay last week I applied downward pressure on the drum to take out the pin from the stem fitting.  Well for the first time in 7 years of doing this the drum went pop and ended up resting on the stem fitting.  It still furls ok but I want to fix it the way it should be.  Does anyone know how the drum is held in position vertically?  Thanks in advance for any help.  Bob  > Date: Mon, 19 May 2008 16:21:41 -0400> To: rhodes22-list@...> From: mtroy@...> Subject: Re: [Rhodes22-list] Furler Question> > Bob,> Is the sail permanently attached to the top and bottom of an aluminum > tube? Bob,
Based on the vintage of your craft, I would venture to guess that it is the
standard GBI furler which has been almost bullet proof for more than twenty
years. Some digital photos of your problem would be helpful.
