Hi,

The list has been quiet for some time, but work goes on slowly
behind the scenes. hugs98 and happy have now been in Fedora
for a little while. Bryan O'Sullivan also has an alex package in the
review queue.

Also Fedora SIG for Haskell is being started now.
<http://fedoraproject/wiki/SIGs/Haskell>

So hopefully we should see increasing and improved Haskell packaging
activity for Fedora
in the coming future.

Sounds like you don't have gcc+c++ installed.

I'll add it to the buildrequires, though usually it is assumed in a
basic build environment I think.

Hope that helps,

Hi,

I finally got round to building gtk2hs packages for Fedora Core 5
and they are available now from <http://haskell.org/fedora/>.
In addition to ghc641-gtk2hs-cairo there is also a "virtual"
ghc-gtk2hs package which should make upgrading smoother when the ghc
version changes: currently it just pulls in ghc641-gtk2hs.

Please report any problems here.

Cheers, Jens

> Chris found that the problem is that gcc 4.1 is noticing that
> StgRunIsImplementedInAssembler is not actually used anywhere. It is in
> inline assembly in StgRunIsImplementedInAssembler that the global
> symbols StgRun and StgReturn are being defined. This is why it works on
> x86 and not on amd64, because on x86 it uses StgRun rather than
> StgRunIsImplementedInAssembler so the function (and the global syms
> defined therein) are not discarded.
>
> So the solution is to get gcc to not discard the function by using the
> gcc __attribute__((used)). To make this portable we use the existing
> GNUC3_ATTRIBUTE macro, so it's: GNUC3_ATTRIBUTE(used).
>
> The patch we are using in the Gentoo ebuild is here:
>
> http://haskell.org/~gentoo/gentoo-haskell/portage/dev-lang/ghc/files/ghc-6.4.1-gcc41.patch

Thanks a lot for this information, Duncan - finally I managed to rebuild
ghc for FC5 in Fedora Extras with this patch. :)
>
> Dear Haskell/Fedorists,
>
> Any chance of getting a ghc-6.4 binary for Fedora 4 with hs-plugins
> included?

Well I don't think it should be included in the ghc package but packaged
separately.

> I have gotten as far as getting darcs, using darcs to get HSX and
> attempt its three component build, and then trying to build and install
> hs-plugins but ....

HSX is required to build hs-plugins now, or is it for pugs?

> Would you provide such a binary -- or pointers on getting the HSX
> component to build under Fedora 4?

Ok I added builds of an old hs-plugins snapshot (from September sorry - if that
is too old, give a shout and I can probably update it to something newer - just
being lazy really...) for ghc-6.4.1: so "yum install hs-plugins-ghc641" should
be what you want.

Jens
