Hi,

The list has been quiet for some time, but work goes on slowly
behind the scenes. hugs98 and happy have now been in Fedora
for a little while. Bryan O'Sullivan also has an alex package in the
review queue.

Also Fedora SIG for Haskell is being started now.

So hopefully we should see increasing and improved Haskell packaging
activity for Fedora
in the coming future.

I would definitely like to see these packages kept up to date. only a few are
in fedora extras.

maintaining Fedora Extras packages

Hi,

I am writing to ask if anyone here might be interesting in maintaining
or co-maintaining any of my Haskell packages currently in Fedora Extras:

darcs, ghc, gtk2hs, haddock

(Of course there are a lot more packages that could be added, but alas I
have decreasing time available for Haskell packaging these days.)

I'd qualify that as "some" :-)

Several important packages are not present, such as cpphs, haddock and
hs-plugins. There's also a bunch of useful stuff that has not been
packaged, such as HXT and HAppS.

Perhaps it's not worth the effort of formally packaging these libraries
up. I just thought I'd canvass, because I wouldn't mind doing it if
people might use them :-)

Most RPMs are now in Fedora Extras:

I was interesting in grabbing some packages for FC6, and found that
nothing is available. I could spend a bit of time rebuilding existing
SRPMs, if anyone might find them useful.

Ok, I reproduced the problem on my FC5 box. I have a feeling the
wxGTK in Fedora Extras may be too new for wxhaskell. I also tried now
with compat-wxGTK2-devel-2.4.2-17.fc5 but got a different build error:

wxc/src/extra.cpp:224: error: cast from 'wxInputStream*' to 'int'
loses precision

I suggest seeking advice on the wxhaskell-users list. I admit I
haven't built it in a while...

Building rpms as root is strongly discouraged btw.

Sorry for the typo: the package name is gcc-c++

Well it is in /usr/bin. But if /usr/bin is not in your path then yes,

Sounds like you don't have gcc+c++ installed.

I'll add it to the buildrequires, though usually it is assumed in a
basic build environment I think.

hugs98 added to Fedora Extras

I'm happy to announce that, thanks to Gérard Milmeister, Hugs98 is now
included in Fedora Extras. Gemi is the package maintainer.
BTW some of the libraries and the demos have been subpackaged.

(It is already built for FC5 and devel but it may take a few days
before they are available in the yum repos.)

gtk2hs packages for Fedora Core 5

Hi,

I finally got round to building gtk2hs packages for Fedora Core 5
and they are available now from <http://haskell.org/fedora/>.
In addition to ghc641-gtk2hs-cairo there is also a "virtual"
ghc-gtk2hs package which should make upgrading smoother when the ghc
version changes: currently it just pulls in ghc641-gtk2hs.

Please report any problems here.

GHC contributors page

Hi guys,

Would someone care to update the GHC contributors page with info about
the Fedora ports:

http://hackage.haskell.org/trac/ghc/wiki/Contributors

at the moment, Fedora isn't mentioned under porters/packagers at all,
and it would be useful to point folk to this list from there.

Thanks a lot for this information, Duncan - finally I managed to rebuild
ghc for FC5 in Fedora Extras with this patch. :)

Well I don't think it should be included in the ghc package but packaged
separately.

HSX is required to build hs-plugins now, or is it for pugs?

Ok I added builds of an old hs-plugins snapshot (from September sorry - if that
is too old, give a shout and I can probably update it to something newer - just
being lazy really...) for ghc-6.4.1: so "yum install hs-plugins-ghc641" should
be what you want.

Go to rpmfind.net
Type libreadline.so.4
Find the text "Fedora Core 4"
Install the compat-readline RPM

Fedora has compat projects for other old libraries as well.
