Hard power problem with net5501-70

We got some hard power problems here with 20 new net5501-70 (serials numbers from 173070 to 173089):
->
When we unplugged the power-supply then re-plug, sometime it doesn't restart, without any reason.
- We are using 12V 1.5A power supply from Globtek and one PCI card plugged on the Net5501-70.

What we do :

We tried different voltages from 7.5 to 15 Volts without any stable result.
- With input at 7.5V., there is a small noise probably generated by internal converter (aprox. 130mV/300kHz) but I don't think this will affect the board (tested on 12V. pins).
- With input at 12V. noise is insignificant.
- Hard power problems "looks like" more stable with low voltage (7.5V)

Is it a known problem? What can we do to resolve this issue?

Hi

I have brand new net5501-70 (bought 1,5 week ago) and "Power Supply,
12V, 2.5A, IEC320-C14 inlet" with 230 inlet from Soekris europe shop and
have this problem too:
after power off (unplugged 12 V end of power supply or 230V end of
power-supply), when I power on (re-plug) box doesn't start:
* red diode "Error" brights
* green diode "Power" brights too.
* Yellow diode "Disk" doesn't bright.
* There is no BIOS prompt.

I must repeat unplug / replug few times (usually 1 or 2 times but
sometimes 3 or more times) to start net5501 and receive BIOS prompt....

"+++ reset" nor "+++ power" over rs-232 console doesn't help. For me
this is most critical problem with net 5501.

I saw few people had wrote about this problem on this list, but I didn't
  find solution nor workaround :(.

We're about to order a net5501 for deployment at a remote site as a firewall and VPN box. It
would be nice to know any updates on this issue. Also, is the net5501-60 affected by the same
problem? So far i've only read reports on 70s boards.

Recent power up and sata problems....

by Soren Kristensen :: Rate this Message:

Hi Everybody,

We have now worked on the power up and sata interface problems and have
found fixes to both.

Unfortunately it's all hardware so any boards experiencing those
problems need to be returned for repair or replacement.

Please visit http://www.soekris.com/Issue0007-8.htm for details and
instructions.

We're very sorry for the inconveniences those issues have caused, and
are working on ways to make up for it a little.

Best Regards,

Greetings,

are the SATA issues only seen if you use an HD?

I have a bunch of CF-only boxes and I am wondering if I will have any
issues if I try to use a SATA HD later on any of them.

Thanks.

Joao

Soren,

Thanks for the update.  I'm assuming this will affect the availability
of new boards?  Any idea when new net5501-70's will be available?

Regards,

Darrick

Depends, it's mostly the latest batch that have problems, and then not
all of them. We will also fix them later on if needed.

We expect to resume shipping early next week, we do have plenty of new
net5501 boards in stock that just need to be updated....

Soren,

I am not sure if you apply serial numbers to your boxes. In case you
don't would it be possible to give an idea of time frames in which these
units might have been sold?

Thanks.
