Guidance on creating my own data filesHello all,
I am a new member to the group, as well as a new user of XCSoar, so be kind if I what I ask makes little sense! :-) I am interested in creating my own data files for use with XCSoar. I fly in rural Southern Illinois in the U.S. (near St. Louis, MO), and I do not see any data files for this area on the XCSoar site. Ideally, I would like to build a map file (.XCM format), but would be happy with files of terrain and topology for now. Any guidance that anyone can provide on the tools and resources needed to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated. I have subscribed to the devel group (that is, in addition to the users group) since I am by profession a software developer with 25 years experience, as well as a sailplane pilot. So while I may not be initially familiar with the tools, file formats, etc., I fell confident that I can eventually come up to speed. BTW, I have extensive experience with Java and a number of .NET dialects, so if those are skills for which this group has a need, please let me know. Thanks in advance, Barry ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace. The easy way to do it is to head over to the terrain generator at http://xcsoar.dd.com.au/cgi-bin/terrain.pl and tell it what you want. This will generate either the new XCM format or the separate terrain & topology files for you to download. Re: Guidance on creating my own data filesAnd a bit more info if you're adventurous:
The xcm files are actually zip files, specially constructed so that the terrain .jp2 file contained therein is not compressed. What this means is that you can rename the xcm file to a zip, extract then edit the waypoint file, and re-insert it into the zip file, renaming it back to xcm.
