mouse not working in canvas - please help

Hi,

after upgrading my Gentoo system to
xorg-server 1.5.1
gtk+ 2.4.13 (-r2 in Gentoo's notation)
xf86-input-mouse 1.3.0

my mouse cannot be used in the canvas of
gtk applications like Inkscape or Gimp.

It works in the menu part. I have looked at
'input-device', Mouse0 (as it is called here)
is enabled for Screen.

xinput test works just fine as well as non-gtk
applications.

In the input-devices (new) section of Inkscape
the buttons are working but moving the mouse
has no effect.

What am I missing, is there a sinmple test.
Is my combination of packages known to be broken?

Gtk StatusIcon does not update

Hi all,

I have written a program in Gtk that has an icon in system tray.
This icon's image will be changed every 1s by a thread.
The problem is, icon's image in system tray does not change as thread update it.
Any help would be great appreciated.

g_signal_connect_object doesn't always work unlike g_signal_connect (GtkBuilder)

Hi,

I have a very strange problem, sometimes, g_signal_connect_object stops
working (g_signal_connect is not affected by this problem). I use Vala
but I also checked the C code generated and it seems correct.

I have an application which has a main window, I want to be able to
duplicate this main window to have different views of my program. For
each different view I create a GtkBuilder and from it, I create widgets
I need for the view (a GtkWindow). And I bind the signals from those
widgets to local callbacks.

Now, when I start the application, I create a default view. There the
signals works, and when I click on a widget, the action gets executed.

If I create another view, which itself will create a GtkBuilder, then a
GtkWindow and setup signals. Then I execute gtk_widget_show_all() on
the GtkWindow. But the problem is that the actions bound using
g_signal_connect_object doesn't work at all with this new window. On
the other hand, the signals bound using g_signal_connect works
perfectly.

I checked with gdb, the functions are being called and the callbacks
are not.

I suppose that you are making a form.

How do you pretend to catch an error when the user have not changed the value?

It is a must that a default item should be displayed and that item
need to have an ID on the list.

Maybe you would not put "Select Country" as an item list, but you can
put "<Country>" and "Select Country" as a Hint.

gtk_combo_box_set_title sets a label that is shown only when menu is torn-off.

Try looking at the gtk_combo_box_set_active function.

Unfortunately, this is not possible at the moment. GTK is due to get
fancier size negotiation, but it's not arrived yet.

Until then, the best you can do is set the initial size of the
enclosing window to a large enough value with
gtk_window_set_default_size(). Getting the size exactly right is very
hard since it will change with different fonts and themes, sadly.

Scrolled window initial size

Hello.

I want to put some widget in a scrolled window, but I want it initially
displayed in its full size. The scroll bars will be useful when the top
level window becomes smaller.

The problem is that the scrolled window seems to allocate space enough
only to the scroll bars.

See the attached program and screenshot as an example. I would like the
first button the be fully visible initally.

Any clues on how to get that?

Passing such information is inherently tied to a mode of implementation
of launching the application. You spawn a new process from scratch with
certain initial state. That might very well not be what is happening. We
might just contact an already running copy of the app and tell it to
open the file. Things like changing the env or the cwd of the app then
just makes no sense.

GTK Drawing Area help

I've had some problems with the Drawing Area widget, and was wondering if anyone new of a comprehensive tutorial on it. I've been using this tutorial:

But it is rather topical. For example, calling draw_line() works from inside some functions (on_expose_event), but not others. I just wish there was a site to address such things

yes, but it's not related to gtk, it's specified by a compiler flag.

if you use mingw, you have to add the --mswindows flag,

if you use vc++, you have to add the /SUBSYSTEM:WINDOWS linker option,
and use WinMain instead of main as your entry point function.

How to add -export-dynamic option to anjuta ?

HI!
I have a problem with add compile option to anjuta project.
I'm using glade-3 to design GUI, and the manual said that use
"glade_xml_signal_autoconnect" function can make the GUI and signal
handler autoconnect. But when I use it, it can not work!!
Now I know if add the export-dynamic option to compile flags, it will
work. But how can I add a compile option to a anjuta project?

Problems cross compiling gtk+ 2.14.3 for arm

Hi,

I'm getting the following errors trying to cross compile 2.14.3 for arm on scratchbox (running on debian, with Microcross cross toolchain gcc 4.1.2). With 2.12.12 I don't see this problem and everything builds perfectly.

How do I make cmd window disapear

Oops. I found and fixed the problem. It was because test does not have use scrollbars. With scrollbars like in test_scroll it is ok.

Hope to update to a new version tomorrow. The perl and python bindings will take a bit longer, I'm afraid.

Uh oh, I just did some deep testing on the test_file.c example.
Everything compiles and works well until I try to
use the V or H key to do a H or V flip, then it segfaults.

In the examples, run "test_file" on "test_img.ppm", then hit h or v
I get a segfault.

I'm running gtk+-2.12.9 and cairo-1.4.14 on Slackware 12.

i am not using python. but it is mention in the documentation, that
you must call the
gtk_widget_show() to the child widget before appending to the notebook.

or else, the notebook switch page, or set current page won' work. the
doc do not say why
the only reason mention is "due to historical reason"..

Notebook - Problem to manualy switch page

Hi,
I have a problem with a notebook, I can not switch on a page with the set_current_page method.

My notebook has some disabled tabs(sensitive=false). I defined a callback on the signal "switch-page" which switch on a specific page if a disabled tab is selected. But it does not switch.

Here is my call back (pygtk):

I printed the page's number, it seems to work but it does not refresh.
I tried to add a "switch button", it worked. So, in my "on_switch" callback, I emited a "clicked" signal for this button. The problem seems to be the same : it does not refresh..

In my constructor, I manually switched with the set_current_page(1) method. It worked only if I add self.show_all() before (my class is a derived window).

I need some helps.

Painting order in gtk2 vs gtk1.2

Hello,

I am a newbie to gtk based app. development.
I am a teacher and have to migrate an educational program from gtk1.2 to
gtk2.

The main window of this program contains a background image with several
buttons for triggering miscellaneous actions.
These buttons must reside at fixed locations. So, everything displayed
in the main window is contained in a GtkFixed widget, which one belongs
to the main window.

I am faced to the following issue:
- with gtk1.2, everything works fine.
- with gtk2, buttons are hidden "behind" the background image: they are
not visible but if one click at the location where a button resides,
the corresponding action is triggered.

My question is thus: how to force buttons to be painted after the
background image has been painted ?

I join a small program which behaves as explained above.
When compiled with options CFLAGS=-Wall -Werror `gtk-config --cflags`
and LDFLAGS=`gtk-config --libs` the button is displayed upon the
background image.
When compiled with options CFLAGS=-Wall -Werror `pkg-config --cflags
gtk+-2.0` and LDFLAGS=`pkg-config --libs gtk+-2.0` the button is hidden
(though it reacts if one click to the right place).

problem with of install gtk+

I am doing some tests, for what I am installing gtk+-2.12.12 in ubuntu 6.06 so I asked to update the dependencies, install glib, but when install ATK, get me next message

Problems cross compiling gtk+ 2.14.3 for arm

Hi,

I'm getting the following errors trying to cross compile 2.14.3 for arm
on scratchbox (running on debian, with Microcross cross toolchain gcc
4.1.2). With 2.12.12 I don't see this problem and everything builds
perfectly.

Any help/insight is appreciated.

Uh oh, I just did some deep testing on the test_file.c example.
Everything compiles and works well until I try to
use the V or H key to do a H or V flip, then it segfaults.

In the examples, run "test_file" on "test_img.ppm", then hit h or v
I get a segfault.

I'm running gtk+-2.12.9 and cairo-1.4.14 on Slackware 12.
